Post subject:  987 Space Saver

I'm considering buying a space saver for my Boxster which runs on 18 wheels. I've weighed up the options and I can afford to lose the luggage space in exchange for the peace of mind. I've seen a couple on eBay which are from 996 models and are 17 inch. Before I launch into a purchase, what are the views of the collective?

Stu, fine getting a space saver but you always get punctures 2 up with both boots full miles away from home. What are you going to do with the spare.
When I had mine I had to get a tyre to the dealers to get swapped onto mine. It just fitted in the passenger space!

I hear what you're saying Jim, but the tyre inflation kit has real limitations. I've never had a puncture on a nice sunny day in the middle of summer next to a good pub!
As far as size and style, do you think the 17inch 996 spare will serve the 'get you home' purpose? I'd keep the inflation kit - it'd be daft to get rid of it.

Like Jim says, the only place for wheel coming off is the passanger seat.

I would just make sure i have breakdown cover

Yes any 17" wheel will do as a spare, space saver or normal.

Ah. Yes. When I said 'I hear what you're saying Jim'. I don't think I really did. It's not so much storing the space saver, as what to do with the full size when it comes off. Now i feel like a complete ****!

Stu, You could always buy one of them nice chrome racks to sit on the rear lid and some bungey cables :)

I would say the other half's lap but not so funny as someone died a few years ago doing exactly that when the tyre went bang! :?
