I've had both the door cards off recently:

On the passenger side to replace the electric window motor and adjust the outside handle

On the drivers side because the drivers door card had been severely bodged with a strip of black painted metal where the pinstripe carpet had frayed. I have a replacement excellent condition door card. But upon removing the old door card, I found it rotten and damp, with most of the damp proofing plastic sheeting torn, repaired, missing etc. Also missing, is the rubber bowl where the speaker resides. Oh and the speaker had been replaced with a tiny 3" round one that didn't fit. First class bodge here!

So, I have been given some thick blue damp-course plastic from a builder, which I hope to use to re-line both doors.

Questions:
1) Does it matter that this is so thick compared to the original?
2) What about that rubber bowl for the speaker? Do I need that? My other vehicle (see below) doesn't have that, and the speakers are about 8 years old, expensive and still perfect.

Allways a problem I discovered that because the inner door panel is not flat it is quite easy for water to drip between the water shedder and the panel....eventually ending up inside the car or soaking into the panel....

I used Dynamat sound deadening which conforms exactly to the door shape .......it is perfectly dry even after a jet wash :D

BE WARNED this does NOT come off if you need access inside the panel you will have to cut a hole then add in patch piece.....perfect stuff but a PITA.....(speakers sound better though).

I have a set of speaker protectors somewhere ..PM me your address I will send them to you

Thanks a lot for the Dynamat rip-off tip: Brown Bread. I have some genuine Dynamat in my van, but man was it expensive! The inside of my doors look the same as yours now, but with that thick plastic neatly stuck down around all the edges with thin duct tape.

I only need one of those rubber speaker protectors please. PM sent.

I might have to mod my doors in the future to take bigger speakers. But first, I'm going to try these:

The don't seem to be available in the UK.

last time i took my S2 door cards off there was a sheet of thick polythene behind the card sealing the door cavity and protecting the door card . I think it was glued onto the door ? Not sure if it was original or not ?

I don't think mine was sealing very well. It will do now though. Apparently on some cars, if it's raining with the window down, water can run down the inside of the window and soak into the door card.
