This 356 was found hidden at the bottom of a farmer’s pond in Wisconsin. The landowner had bought the place in 1970 and offered to give the wreck away to anyone who wanted to lift it out.

The full story is over on a web forum called Jalopy Journal.

The poor thing may need a little work …

OMG that is a project :?

I remember taking to the leading 356 restorer at PCGB Festival Brands Hatch a few years ago & he was showing a restored
car that was originally a basket case like this. He reckoned it was around £45K for the shell :(

Can't believe that is worth saving given its advanced state of decay :(

The luggage rack looks salvageable. Isn’t that enough to base a restoration on?

I know of a couple that did a £30K restoration on a TR5, the basic heap was a barn find dragged out on a rope & cost £2k.
The shell was so bad they only ended up with the bootlid & even whilst repairing that the body guy pleaded with them to let him bin it
& use a better one! The chassis was replaced, so apart from core items (engine, box & rear axle) it was 99% new
