Post subject:  Key battery problem

Hi everyone ,

New member and first time Porsche owner , 2003 986s in Arctic Silver . Treat for my upcoming 60th.

Thought Id complete a simple task and replace a tired battery in one of the key fobs. It now doesn't work as a remote and having locked the car with the other remote ( fortunately i didn't try and replace the battery in that one ) the car alarm sounded when using the blade.

Couple of questions why is such a simple change of a battery such an issue and secondly should the alarm sound when opening with the blade , having locked it with the remote.

Thanks in advance

Firstly congrats on the upcoming birthday! Need pics of the car!
The battery contacts in the key fob are super sensitive & sometime need "tweaking" to make a decent contact. One of mine was very cranky & in the end the OPC sorted it out on a service.
As regards the key blade. A 2003 will have a sleep timer, off the top of my head its 7 days (before 2002 it was 5) whereby after that period of none use it will go to sleep, which saves battery power. So after then you will need to open it with a key. What you need to do is open the door with a key & then WITHIN 30 SECONDS insert the key in the ignition & turn it to ACC or position 1 and this will stop the alarm going off. Once you've done this start the car in your own time & then the sleep timer will restart.
