Hi All,

I'm new to the club, the forum and my 2005 2.7 Boxster 987 manual.

I'm delighted with my new Boxster but have couple of minor issues i'd like to get sorted straight away.

I've noticed that the heated seats aren't working. Apparently the fuses are ok, but i have read since, that there may be some sort of ECU coding issue if the battery output voltage drops or the battery is removed? Does anyone know the likely cause of the heated seat failure and if there is any truth to the ECU issue?

I live over in Thanet (East Kent) and will be looking for a recommended Porsche Specialist within easy reach, any ideas?

Finally the clear acrylic wind deflector is missing, where is the best place to source this type of item?

Thanks :)

Hi & welcome

Not aware of the heated seats issue & to be honest didn't think the management of the 987 was intelligent enough to know the battery has been changed.

Currently living in North Kent I use OPC Tonbridge (Porsche main dealer) for servicing. If you become a TIPEC member you'll get a discount on parts & labour there. There are a few other independents in Kent but none AFAIK close to you.

My 986 did have a wind deflector & it fell off & got run over last year. TBH it makes virtually no difference to the draught so therefore pretty much decided not to replace it.

I run the Kent group of TIPEC so would be good to see you & the car at a meet sometime.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for getting back to me. I joined TIPEC yesterday too and will definitely get along to a meet in the near future.

All the best

I have the same issue with the seats on my Boxster from the same year.

What I have been told I need to do is find someone with a Porsche 'PIWIS' system that can be plugged into the car and then runs the 'handover' set up the same as the OPC did when they first sold the car.

There is a bug where the car forgets that it has options fitted after the battery is disconnected or runs out. It only affects the heated seats and the headlamp washers for some reason (I don't have the latter).

It is clearly not consistent because they were fine after I changed the battery a couple of years ago, but not after it ran flat this year.

OPC Tonbridge want to charge a full hour labour for this, so you might be best off trying elsewhere first!

Dave975,
Thanks for your reply. That's really useful to know and is consistent with items I've found on the net. I think trying to find someone with the right kit to do this in East Kent is going to be a mission!
This issue isn't critical, but I want to get it sorted. I'll let you know what I find out and how I get this sorted (eventually). I'd be grateful if you keep in touch too?
Thanks again
Stuart

Hi Stuart. Just to let you know that I got this sorted out at the OPC in the end. It was indeed the handover that was needed.

I had the car booked in there anyway and they agreed to do it for the cost of half an hour's labour so I just got it done as I knew it would be winter again before I got around to it if I didn't!

Seats get really warm again now.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for replying. I've been putting off going to the OPC because it's bit of a jaunt, (and the concern over cost). Really helpful, thanks! I will get it booked in before the weather changes!

Regards

Stuart

I have to say thanks to tr7v8 Jim and Daveb975. I took the Boxster into the OPC at Tonbridge today and got the heated seats and rear spoiler reset by having a 'hand over' carried out. It was £78 all in which I think was reasonable. They were also able to reassure me that my next service wouldn't be as painful as I might have expected.
So thanks Jim for recommending Tonbridge OPC and Dave for confirming the 'hand over' would probably sort my problem.

Stuart. :D
