Hi folks,
I need some advice, so thought I's ask the experts :D

Totally new to boxsters, but thinking of getting one to see what all the fuss is about :)
I've been trawling through lots of websites trying to get info on specs & prices on the various models.

I'm trying to get a handle on the 1999-2001 models, as to what was available, but its proving a bit more difficult than I expected.

Can anyone point me in the right direction ?
Are there any ballpark prices on the different versions/models, in various conditions, or would that be too easy ?

My only Porsche knowledge is on the IB 911's and 924/944 stuff.

Any advice & suggestions welcomed.

Cheers,
Declan

honest advice? get a 968/944 turbo instead. I am not having a pop at boxsters here, i just think boxster values will fall over the next year quite dramatically, whilst a good car like the 968/944 turbo will hold its value over that time and you will be able to sell next year with very little if no deprecation, having enjoyed the 968/944 for a year and use the proceeds to buy a newer boxster cheaper.

Difficult subject, pretty similar to the question regarding 996 values which are now around 15K. A quick look on Auto trader shows early 2.5s going for around 7K the issue being what happens when it breaks, e.g. an engine is around 6K new!

Car values are all over the place, look through Pistonheads to try and gauge some averages.

look on ebay. use the watch this item function but best to pick auctions with low starting prices and plenty of bidders. quite often you'll find that the reserve isn't met but it will give you an idea of what people are willing to pay and therefore the realistic value.

if you want to be really sad, put the relevant info (age, miles, spec, highest bid) into an excel spreadsheet and over a period of time you'll get yourself some pretty good averages (not that i've done that of course!)

At the moment its buyers market for Boxsters and 996s

If your interested in buying one, just look at the prices, visit a few cars and get them checked out by a specialist, at the moment there are so many panic sellers out there you will get a real bargain.

Lots of bargains at the moment.

Selling my '44 for an early 2.5 has also crossed my mind, they are so damn cheap at the moment!

I was thinking i might get a better deal right now rather than wait until the summer when convertables tend to be a bit more desirable.

global financial turmoil kind of makes things difficult

My first post here! :bounce:

I too will be new to the boxster and have been looking for a 2000-2003 Boxster S

I have found them to vary by £5K which is 33% - massive differences :o

If I were to have one inspected which way is best?
Indie or get it booked into the local OPD?

Who are the respected indie examiners?

But adverts only shoe you what people are hoping to get for them,

Not what they are selling for

Firstly Hi & Welcome

The one you hear most about is Peter Morgan who certainly knows his stuff & does a damn good inspection so I'm told.

There are others, have a look in the back of 911 & Porsche World or GT Purely Porsche.
I also wouldn't discount using a good indi, such as Ray Northway in the south or Hartech in the north.
I can especially recommend Ray, his ability to spy issues on my 944 was amazing, some I knew about & other things I didn't.

The other option would be an OPC but some are better than others...

Hi,

I agree with Jim. Peter Morgan has also produced a number of Porsche buyers guides that may be worth reading before you buy any Boxster. They give you technical specifications etc and also has a section covering problem areas with colour photos showing you the problems. See the link below: -

Hope this helps,
