Porsche 986 central locking issue

Post by Kam »

Hi fellow 986 owners,

I wonder if anybody could help me here. My Porsche 986 has had the classic issue where water has collected under the passenger seat and fried the alarm unit. I understand this alarm unit also controls the central locking.

I purchased a second hand alarm unit and an ecu which sits in the boot. I was advised that you can’t just replaced the alarm unit, you have to replace the ecu in the boot too and you will get a new keyfob. Both units were from the same car and matched my car too. I replaced both and suddenly the interior lights and the electric windows started working, which weren’t before. I also swapped out my old key and transferred it to the new fob. Car started too and al is good.

Only issue I have is that the central locking doesn’t work. Does anybody know why? Does it need programming? If it did then the car would t start, correct?

Thanking you in advance lads.
