Hope some of you guys can help , but when I start my Boxster up from cold , I get quite an amount of grey/blue smoke coming from the exhaust outlet for about 20 seconds , then all is well . Could this be a choke problem ? or maybe an indication that the engine is on the way out ? Its not burning any oil at all , there are no leaks , and its done 70k miles , any thoughts ? regards , Andy

I understand that a lot of the flat six engines do this on start up, it's due to oil in the bores. e.g. don't worry about it.

agree with jim, oil settles in the bores as its a flat 6 and is burnt on start up, 911's do this as well so no worries

They do but not all the time, my 3.2 smokes about 1 in 10 times of starting (maybe less)

Once the engine has been running for about 10 mins, try to remove the oil filler cap, if it does not want to come undone as easily as when the engine has been switched off for a while, it could be the oil seperator failing, quite a common problem.
