I think possibly that your problem lies with the adjustment of the rod/cable. As your original post says correctly, that on opening via the either switch, the motor does one cycle ie opens the clams then closes the clams (one cycle). In between this cycle, the hatch should lift free partially, depending on the strength of the struts. If this initial cycle is not completed (or in your case, interrupted) and needs extra 'input' to get the clams closed, then the rods could be fouling around the locking pin assembly, or the cable is too tight (it must have a decent amount of 'play' on the joint on it's motor peg. Check both sides - both have to work in conjunction...

Just a possible suggestion...

I'm sure there was a thread on here about adjusting the hatch lock/cams/assembly.

If anyone can point me to it, I would be grateful.

My problem is:

First the spring in the lock barrel was weak and would not return the key to the vertical position. Bit fiddly but I managed to fit a stronger spring.

Changed weak struts.

Changed latch pin aperture rubbers - looks great.

The link rod to the motor cam arm was bodged on and I fixed it. There was so much play in it, that it wasn't releasing the clams sufficiently to release the hatch.

Managed to get it to work.

Except, initially, a small bump (on our beautiful ultra smooth UK roads) would release the hatch. (Every 5 yards).

Bought newish pins.

Still cannot get them adjusted so that they strike a happy balance between opening the hatch and staying closed over the bumps.
So I have released one strut just so I can drive the thing without extra ventilation.

The release cable might be too tight, or the clams are completely cream crackered

It can be quite a mission to get it all setup right

I'll adjust the threaded end of the connecting rod and see if that works.

If not, where could I get new clams?

The motor should make one rotation and stop, like a wiper motor. You need to address this first.

Okay. What determines that?

I looked at the PET sheets and no joy. Have you got a part number for the clams Waylander? I might get them from the US.
