Hi there Folks

After 5 years, it's time to get rid of the 928 GTS - it never gets driven these days and has only done some 500 miles this year - pathetic. I was looking at moving to a 996 C4S but, after driving one today, I was a little underwhelmed and, to be honest, I don't know why! It's a lovely car and certainly is powerful enough but there was just 'something' missing for me. Not sure at this point whether it was the Tiptronic gearbox or the fact that the car generally was a little on the shabby side. Outside very good. Inside absolutely scratched to pieces. Someone didn't care... much.

I'm now looking at the 996 Turbo and wondered if any of you who might have owned one or currently own one could let me know what it's like as a car and how expensive, compared to the 996 C4S or C2S, it is to service. Also, what would go wrong with it that I shouldn't be looking forward to, if anything?

I know it doesn't suffer from the potential RMS issues and that's a relief. Any advice sincerely welcome!

Cheers
Chris

Hi Chris, long time no post! you've spoken about selling the 928 every year from what I remember & why should it be any different this time?

Hi there, Jim

Yeah - this time it has to go. She never gets out of the garage anymore. I want a more modern car that I can use daily but which will still give me the "oomph" I get from the 928 when I put my foot down. In the 996 TT I think I may well get that.

Yes - sold the Bogster some time ago now. She's being well enjoyed by a chap in the Birmingham area. Still hear from him on a regular basis - he loves the car.

Going to try and get PX on the 928 'cos it'll take far too long to sell it for what I want for it and I want to make this change before Christmas.

Cheers
Chris

Chris
I've replied with some comments, against the C4S the servicing side is a little more expensive but only down to the fact the plugs need changing more often(2 years against 4 from memory) and I believe it holds a bit more oil.. but if you send your own its not quite so bad.
2 year service with plug change at the OPC was a grand.. so an Indy could be quite a bit cheaper , 12k service at Autofarm is £300

I thought the 928 was off to Mr Anderson to sort out in the New Year??

If you must go to a watercooled 911 then I know Mark Savings just got shot of a 996 TT a few months back. He would be good to talk to also?/

Thanks for the kind words - it seems so long since I've been "active" in the club but my interest has suddenly been resurrected and that can't be a bad thing. My life has been simply buried in work and music and trying to get some breathing space back in as well as some balance.

I'll sorely miss the red beast but she just doesn't get driven anymore - what a shame and a waste of a great car. She'll be be better off with someone who has the time and money to keep her in tip-top condition. I'm also looking for a change and the only car that might "do it" for me apart from the 928 is the 911 Turbo. It'll have the grunt and more that I love so much in the 928 as well as the heady good looks. I've found a couple of 'em that look good and will be looking at them over the next few days. Fingers crossed I find a good 'un.

All the best
Chris

The one in Slough is at: Sports And Prestige Centre who to be honest I've never heard of, which does worry me a little.

Have a look and let me know whether it's the same place? I the bloke I spoke to was David.

Cheers

You moved? Where are you now and which TIPEC meeting do you got to these days then? We've been meaning to get back to TV - have already been back to SC once or twice. Hope to see you there sometime.

Cheers
Chris
