Hi guys,

Collected Porsche on Friday afternoon at 4pm, got home had a quick drive around then at about 6pm the orange gearbox light came on (emissions??) when I was parking it outside brothers house & the car started mis-firing. Drove back to the garage on Saturday morn & they ended up changing all the coils & 1 spark plug.

Car drove home sweet as a nut until in roadworks put it into park & light came on again. Drove back to garage & they now believe that it is more serious than first thought???????. Might find out today.

Bit upset to be honest, finally realised my dream of owning a 911 & this has shattered the whole experience for me & left a bitter taste in the mouth. I have tried to look at the positives over the weekend such as better to get the gremlins out of the way early & good job it's under warranty etc - but this does not get over the fact that the car was supposed to have had a major service & a 111 point check before I collected it on the Friday. Not trying to blame anybody, but just p*****off at the moment. :( :( :( :(

Sad to hear Stu. It always sours the experience. With luck it'll get fixed & be OK. Had it been standing long before you bought it?

Don't worry too much, mine comes on fairly regularly.

I normally take the battery negative terminal off for up to 1/2 hour to reset the warning.

If it persists, it could be MAF sensor (about £350), o2 sensor (£180), though hopefully your seller will sort this for you.

The MAF can be cleaned by removing it (2 security torx screws) with electrical contact cleaner sprayed onto it which I've done a couple of times.

What area are you in, you need to find a reputable independant for mechanics.

If you need further help, please shout.

Cheers
Paul

Jim,
No the Sales Manager had been using it for the previous 6 weeks without any issues.

Paul,
They thought it may be the MAF & were going to swop it, but as they were closing they did not have time to start re-investigating it. It's not just the light it's the mis-fire and & the rough sound it is making that causes me concern. The owner of the workshop said he thought it may be a more serious fault on cylinder 4 maybe with the valves ???. If thats the case it could be a long time till I get it back. I then have to think long & hard do I want it back or do I spend my money elsewhere.

It's not good when I have the car for less than 4hrs & it has to go back to the garage & is off the road. I feel like a right muppet at the moment & that I may have wasted my money.

If its any of the above issues (except number 4 cylinder) then I'd be chuffed that its shown up now and under some warranty.
They are prone to failure not just on Porsches, so the fact its already been replaced is a good start in my book.

True its not the best way to start a new relationship, but I've looked at the brighter side.
If it is a cylinder problem then I'd ask for my money back and walk away feeling confident there are plenty of others out there..

Another plus point is the garage is probably even more pissed off than you about this

Just been advised that 2 other cars from the same dealers have the same fault - which leads them to believe that it is a poor quality fuel issue. They are going to investigate this avenue further. If it proves to be this then I can have car back tomorrow.

If it isn't then they think it may be the lazy bucket on the hydraulic tapets ????. If this is the case they will replace & car should be ready for the end of the week.

Should know more later today, lets just hope it is the fuel.

Have been told car is back in one piece & will be tested tomorrow to see if problems have been cured. They believe that it was a case of contaminated fuel, but as they have had 2 very similar cases, I would like to know what petrol station they used.

Hopefully they will be able to deliver to me tomorrow if all ok - will keep you updated & might still be able to make my first meeting at the Red Lion.

All sorted now. New lazy buckets on cylinder 4 - cause thought to be dodgy petrol. Car tested for 200 miles without problems & now got back - yippeee.

Big thanks to Autobahn and to PCT for there hard work in getting car back to me as a matter of priority.

What time is it at the Red Lion?

Stu :D :D :D :D :D :D
