I have a couple of questions relating to the performance of my 911 996 3.6 with the PSE switchable sports exhaust. I only test drove the car with the standard exhaust on. I have noticed 2 things one is that there seems to be a step in performance at around 2800 rpm under faily light acceleration, if pressing on you do not notice it.

The other thing is at around 5500rpm the car seems to sort of hold back for a few hundred rpm the pulls again up to 7000rpm.

I have not had the mod done which removes the quite spot. I remember when I had bikes that they seemed to have a flat spot which had something to do with helping the bike meet noise/ emission test.

Any one any ideas?

This is the same on mine.

The variocam adjustments happen at these revs, nothing to worry about. This happens at 3000 and 5000 rpm.

The PSE noise cutout happens at 27 and 42mph to get around the German drive by noise regs. THe mod is easy and very worth while.

Thanks for responding. I think I will get the mod done, the noise is great.

Just a quick update. I took the car to Andy at Promax, they identified the fault very quickly. It turned out to be the cable going to the Knock sensor on the left bank was not connected. It self a 10 sec job but a quite a bit of the surrounding bits and pieces needed to be removed meaning a couple of hours labour. But what a difference, there is not a step at 2800 and pulls flat up to 7k.

I also had the car serviced and MOT'd at the time, I can honestly say I could feel the difference in the car as I pulled away. They may not be the cheapest around but I think you get what you pay for and I will have no hesitation in taking the old girl back there.
