Does any one have any ideas about a vehicle warranty on my 911 Carrera 4s . I have a limited knowledge of the I M S on these engines failing and causing catastrophic damage to the engine. I have owned the car for six months only covered about 200 mls. in that time but have received a quote for £75 for the year which seems good considering an engine rebuild can come out at 15- 20 grand. |

Limited experience but that sounds very cheap. Not sure of the age of your car but M96/97 engines not only get IMS issues but also bore score as well. A rebuild after failure will be close to 5 figures. Take a look at Barry Harts site at Hartech. He has done a massive amount of research on these engines & their failure modes. Personally I'd either have no warranty or a Porsche OPC warranty. Most of the others are too limited to cover the various failure modes. |

Thanks Jim, mine is a one previous owner 2005 with 70,000 on it, service history mainly Porsche main dealer it has a perfect lump at the moment but I also have a stag and they had a terrible reputation so I know what can go wrong but with a Porsche the bill can rocket. |

To be honest, anyone prepared to offer you any kind of warranty on a 13-year-old Porsche, with that mileage, which offers the kind of peace of mind you are looking for, would cost you a fortune, high hundreds of pounds annually, £75 may cover a wheel nut failure! You are driving a car which you are confident is in tip top order,enjoy it stop worrying about what if.You may have many years fun in the car before it costs you any money. Find a brilliant indie to look after it for you, who wont stripe you up on bits etc.There are plenty around, and a small number of shysters after your money, if you need help with that ask on here we will be happy to steer you in the right direction. |

I invested £670 in a Warranty Wise warranty that covered engine problems only, but did include wear and tear and more crucially bore scoring. My 07 997.1 C4S with 80K+ miles was accepted and unfortunately I have had to use the policy this month with two scored bores. Good news is the company is honouring their policy, no questions asked. I will take the opportunity to do the full engine rebuild whilst we're at it, but the policy is covering about half the cost of a full rebuild at Hartech. |

£75 sounds way too cheap to be effective to me! As mentioned warranty wise is hundreds as is the official Porsche warranty. |

Doesn't the car have to be totally original for the OPC warranty? I'm picking my car up in a couple of days and have a bumper to bumper warranty with the car up to £5k which I know isn't enough for a full rebuild. Just wondering how easy it would be to put a 45k mile 2006 car through the OPC? |

They will do it, you will have to pay for an inspection and fix anything that they find. I would get it inspected and get anything major fixed on the current warranty. |

Even the battery has to be a Porsche one to be covered on their warranty. |

Apologies for the thread hijack but looking into the Porsche warranty it won't cover cars over 14 years old and by the time my current warranty expires my car will be 14 years old. Any other recommendations for cover? Thanks J |

Picking up on this old thread but wondered if anyone knows (approx) what an official Porsche warranty would cost. Have a 10 year old 997.2 33k miles which I think would pass the inspection (even has a Porsche battery...) Thanks |

Thanks I just renewed my opc warrentee on my gen 2 , it was about £1850 for 2 years , within the first month I had my cross over pipes replaced so well worth it for me |
