I would say a 997 but perhaps also consider a 996 Turbo or a 993.

I think mostly it comes down to your own preference.The 997 is better machine its bigger, more modern, updated version of the 996, and in my opinion much better looking too, but having said that you can't really go wrong with a 996 either. There are a few variants to consider do you want the S version, will it be manual, or automatic. Given the choice I would choose S every time because if you are going to do it you might as well DO IT. If you want an automatic I would choose 997 because I have a few friends with tiptronic 996 both have had major problems with the gear boxes this last year or so. Everyone will bang on about IMS and bore scoring. Yes it does happen, but don't let it scare you. A car that has survived 60,000 miles probably wont suffer these issues. How they drive is really personal preference, you just have to try both out. For your budget you could get a 996 or 997 with lots of extras- sports exhaust is a must! that little button makes an immense difference to the engine noise. Most importantly just enjoy which ever one you choose. good luck. |

There's a nice 996t at 911 virgin. High miles but it will be a nice car. I wouldn't have a na 996/997 at that money so I'd go a smidge higher for a 997.2. I just wouldn't fancy wondering if that was going to be the day I needed a 9k engine. At a lower price point you don't have much choice. |
