As I said in introductions, I am picking up the car in April this year, I have had a test drive, did not smoke on startup, could hear no bangs or rattles, owner said it had had seal done between engine and gear box, said it's a small addon if not done could be expensive, had AC fixed and had the radiators done.
It's a 6 speed manual 88k FSH it's X reg. don't know if it's a 3.4 or 3.6, did not know there were the 2 versions until I joined the forum.
I think now after reading posts in your forum it would be best to arrange an inspection by a guy knowledgeable in Porsche's to inspect the car. if someone could give me details of someone near Newcastle upon Tyne?

I know Tom Ferguson is in the area, if not him Peter Morgan will have an agent near. I'd google those two first, but I'm not near you and don't know anyone else. :D

Nelson Porsche just outside Middlesborough? There is also another Porsche specialist on the A19 heading towards Mid'Boro I believe (I may be wrong on that). You could always go to the local official Porsche Centre. They will do you a PPI. Whoever does it, make sure they do a cylinder compression test and use a Borescope to inspect the cylinders for signs of scoring.
