I'm sure this subject has cropped up here before, but any advice would be appreciated.

I am the very happy owner of a 944 S2 for the last 2 years, using the car as a daily driver. I have had no problems at all with the car and am completely amazed that a 20 year old car has never let me down and the only costs accrued have been for tyres and servicing.

The time has come for a change and I'm thinking of moving over to the dark side. My initial plan was a 964, however, the huge availability of well priced 996's is incredibly tempting. I cover approximately 15.000 miles a year and have a budget of between £12 - 15,000. Any advice on what to look for and what to avoid would be greatly received.

Marcus

Steve our membership secretary has a nice 996 for sale, not quite sure how much he is looking for it. I saw it at the weekend at Wings n wheels @Turweston and it looks a great car, you might want to pm himfor more details. his user name is village eejit.

Good luck

My personal view is that a 996 in this price bracket will have high mileage (to very high) or have some issues and will limit the options for that reason.

My only concern would be adding that amount of miles per year to an already high mileage is going to cost reasonable sums of cash quite soon. However a well cared for one will go for a long time but be prepared for it to be very hard to shift when re sale times come.

Not the voice of doom but just make sure enough is kept aside for the bills to come.
