Having done plenty of research for tyres the last time I bought new, I bought exactly the same when I replaced them in August this year - which is Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3. I think they are now 'end of line', but if you search the internet you should be able to find a set for under £400 - mine were £368 fitted. The old ones had lasted 22000 miles.

When doing the original tyre research I telephoned Porsche head office and they put me onto their tyre expert in Chester. He explained that all the 'N' rating means is that a tyre has been tested by Porsche to ensure that a tyre is safe for track use and that when the driver comes off the track and goes on the public roads then the tyres will still be quite safe. This is really relating to side wall strength. He also told me to run my tyres at 2psi below book figures to give a more comfortable ride on British roads and to make the tyres last longer. He said that the book pressures were fine for the, quote, 'billiard table smooth German roads', but that British roads are not so good.

Hello

I am a Porsche enthusiast from Norway. I currently own an original 3.2 Carrera 84' which I adore!

I have a short question with the last posted reply in mind:

Can I buy/use new tyres without N rating and not jeopardize the handling of my car? The reason I'm asking is that I have received a great offer on some new Bridgestone Potenza RE050A (apparently delivered as standard on some new Ferrari models). I spoke to the Norwegian importer, but they could not answer whether the tyres came with an N rating option. However, they were aware that they had delivered other N rated tyres before on earlier models not being produced anymore, such as Bridgestone Potenza S-02.

Hope for an answer

Brgds,

Fredrik L.
