Greetings all, finished refurbing my suspension on my SC and what a difference it made before the left hand old style cam chain tensioner failed. I would heartily recommend it to anyone that has not had new bushes fitted. When I got the car, the front end was certainly not right as it seemed to pitch quite badly in left hand corners and wallow into right handers. On getting the car on my ramp, you could barely get any movement shouldering the left wheel but the right wheel would easily move by a country mile! On looking at the adjuster bolts, the left one was wound right in and the right one was right out. After stipping it down, it became apparent that the right torsion bar had managed to go in one tooth out. God knows who had played about with that before! All the front end was ripped off and I replaced the front shocks (B6 Bilsteins at about £360 just for 2 inserts!!!!), bottom ball joints, wheel bearings, disks, pads, new Goodridge brake hoses and all new copper pipes. I also replaced all the bushes with Superpro ones from early911.co.uk and did the top strut mounts as well.
It certainly made a massive difference to the front end of the car and drove perfectly after getting the alignment done. It now showed up how crap the back was!!! Clunking over bumps, etc!!
The exhaust was also shot on the car, was still all original so changed the full system. Got a stainless steel crossover and pre silencer as they were not much more expensive than the mild steel. Sounds nice as well.
The car now has the engine out of it, the oil sender above the bellhousing was also leaking, the back wings are coming off and I have a good set of wings to prep and put on as well as a full respray. All the back suspension is off now and is being prepped for refitting!
