So Chris @ CG has my car in for work, and i asked him to steam clean the engine, which he did - he has really gone out his way to help me with this one...

Image

We then ran it up got it warm and watched...

First to appear was a tiny weep from the bottom corner of the rocker cover, one i have already sorted - guess my rockers are warped - so that is curable either with new billet covers, or a trip to a machine shop to get them flat, then refit and seal...

Image

Then we saw one coming from the main seal area and dripping down the middle of the crank case...

Easy to sort ish - two seals live up there, nothing expensive just labour - i can do them myself...

Still nothing major though.

So we tipped the car on its side, to replicate a right hander, which is when i get the puff of smoke. nothing... chris raised the throttle to about 2krpm, nothing...

but when he blipped it to 5k - all hell broke loose...

bingo - found it...

i wrapped myself up in my fleece, donned a full face mask - its bloody hot under there by this point and i can see oil pissing out the camshaft seal!!!

The good news is, hopefully, it wont cost to much to sort, exhaust and heat tubes off, engine cradle off, drop rear of engine, timing chair cover off, chain off, replace and refit...

I'll get a price from GCR - this will determine if i do Donny or not.... but hey, i am so happy its nothing worse - but i wont count my chickens just yet :D:D:D

Hi Young Man,

Here's an idea

If memory serves me correct the rocker covers have a seal sleeve through which the studs pass and over time they weep.

So it may be worth checking this out before getting new covers or machine facing

If my memory has failed, then put it all down to my age and withdrawal symtoms due to my car being off the road

Brian - its already been resealed once, so yes its a trip to the milling machine i think..

Summer - almost but not quite - its having some major front end suspension surgery and another geo prior to this season, I always have it geo'd with the track wheels on... the winters are tucked away somewhere between his work benches :D
