Hi, has anyone carried out, or had carried out, a door stay bracket repair to a 993 `A` post? I am planning to remove my driver's door to access the `A` post. :( Then by cutting out around the door stay bracket ( bracket has loosened inside the `A` post), re-attach the bracket and weld back the removed `A` post section. Seems like a lot of work for this small bracket - has anyone got any ideas ? :D

Its a common fault on 993's especially the drivers door.
Mine has been repaired in the same way (almost) no door emoval though if your carefull you can work the A pillar bracket into the original position and tack weld the bracket to the pillar either side of the slot. TIG or MIG welding would be best. A coat of touch up finishes the job.
Mine was done like this just over a year ago and seems fine.

Thanks for response Allroad23. Mine has a little bit of corrosion :( below the bracket slot and I was thinking I had better remove the section and replace. That's at the moment - I might take the easier route and follow your repair. Thanks

this is the standard fix , and works well generally , the other option is very tricky even for the OPC , Porsche were doing the proper fix for this problem under the 10 year deal , but there are very few 993's which would qualify now , but if you have a '98 car with this problem , they will fix it , if you shake them hard enough !!!

A timely post mwcarrera, my passenger door has just gone! I'll try to access the PCGB posts as well. I just need to find a friendly, expert welder now!

Hi, just repaired my door stay bracket by opening the A post and welding in a bar internally across the bracket and A post. Photographs available of inside A post, failure mode and `my` repair if you want! Martin :D

Just noticed a post on the GB Club where a 993 owner had his door stay bracket repaired by a Porsche dealership for £450 + VAT. Comment was that the dealership had done many, many 993s and now have a fixed price repair which includes the door and wing off. Thought those interested might like to know this option.
