Hi, have just taken the 64 off SORN and after a quick MOT (handbrake adjustment) some tax, its now charging around the Kent country roads... however, I forgot how good the original H4s are :(
I'm thinking of fitting some HIDs from eBay....
But worried I'm going to melt my wiring!
Am I being paranoid or can I blast these bad boys in???

Hi

A simple replacement is Osram Night Breaker unlimited. They improved my 964 fantastically...... Mind you anything would be brighter than the glow worm in a jam jar originals !

HIDs draw less current - apart from the initial start up.

Search out ToreB in the Porsche forums - he sells well thought out kits

HTH

Pete

PS They aren't half bright so you will upset some folk!

I just fitted a HID kit to my 968, which also use H4 lamps, great quality kit, got from these guys... HIDS4U.co.uk. Mine was specific for the car ( as it was in their list of cars)

Have you fitted the headlamp relay kit? Standard spec has all power going through switch( hence why the burn out) fitting relay will improve lights and enable you to upgrade without risking the headlamp dip switch

So I can just pop in the Osram Night Breakers - no relay kits etc required and all I'll get is a brighter light??

You can but putting a relay in each of the circuits will A. improve the power to the lights & B. mean the switch doesn't get cooked.

Steve on here sells the CREE headlight kits that Brett is talking about. I'd certainly look at that.
