79 SC with 55,000 miles
garaged for almost 3 years due to problem:
starts to run with aid of starter, then dies.
Won't fire with immediate retry, but will attempt to start again after waiting 15 minutes or so.
Replaced bad gas, have spark at coil and plug
replace plugs,
fuel pump have fuel, but have not done pressure check.

Thanks in advance
Steve

Hi :)

It sounds like a fuel problem.... easy to diagnose....old mechanics trick..... go to a motorshop and buy a can of EASY START (which is basically Ether) spray into air intake while some one else starts the car....if it runs for LONGER ...its not getting ENOUGH fuel to the engine....you can keep an engine running until the can runs out if you dont spray it too heavily...for several minutes....

And if that works it PROVES its NOT an ignition/spark problem.... its a FUEL problem....

All the best Brett :)

I flooded the engine when lifting the air flow sensor plate per Bentley pg 201-7 to check the pump function.
either in smallest quantity did not help. (I've been warned about using too much either in the box as a backfire could cause an explosion wiping out the box)

I have fuel as checked with the air flow sensor plate to the point where I really flooded the engine. Has belched gas via exhaust.
I have a friend who suggests that one of the injectors may be leaking. So I am off to do a check of those.

All suggestions welcome. Thanks, Steve
