Hello
Having owned my 964 for about 12 years its now developed a dreaded oil leak
its done about 100,000mls and I am seriously thinking about a top end build due to the mileage
Has anybody used S.V.P specialist vehicle preparations in Worcester Nr Droitwich

Wazzer
Thanks for the input

You have obviously had a good experience with these chaps but its about 4 hours away for me
I was hoping there was a recommended specialist within the Midlands that I could periodically visit during a build

Ps I have not dismissed your advice as I only want to do it once
still in deep thought as to when to get it done

Regards
John F

Havent used them, but heard a lot of good reports from people who have.

Dominic spent a couple of hours talking to me about what to look for when I was first interested in buying a 911 - showed me around the workshop etc. Very approachable and willing to discuss Porsche. Wish I had used him for some recent work - but stayed a bit closer to home.

Regards

Kevin

Jon, would be my choice too, but if you don't want to go that far,I would have said Bob Watson, but I hear that sadly he is now out of business, but others who are very good at aircooled are , Tuthill, Ray Northway,Wrightune,SVP,Autofarm, and several others all of whom have done very good work. Good luck with the '64 :)

Thanks for the overwhelming replies
I did go to see SVP and noted that he had many porsches in for major and minor work
However most of it seem to be extremely well done bodywork , I saw no engines being built
I did also visit Autofarm many years back and looked into their specialist engine shop which looked impressive
What I also want is for the selected repairer to repair what I want done and not what they think needs doing if you know what I mean, I speak from experience.
I know that with an old car that certain parts will break which will add cost or parts should be replaced when apart to save in the future But after discussion please !
This is why I would like to employ a local so that if there is a question I can quickly be on site to view the problem or even source the needed part myself
I remember having a clutch done at a quoted price but the bill was inflated due to new flywheel bolts new driveshaft bolts new exhaust hangers and new clutch guide tube (of which two of the items I had in my garage at home) fitted without discussion !
I know it wont be cheap but I am prepared to pay good money for a good service

SVP is well known on the impact bumper forum and well respected, not that I have used them, they have done top end refreshes for a few people on IB

Hi John can totally recommend SVP. He has carried out a major restoration of my 911 SC including top end rebuild, g/box overhaul and lightweight wire harness. Engine and gearbox work happens in a small anti room off the main workshop so maybe why you didn't see much going on.

As said above Dom is a genuine gent with no bull***t.

Prices are good for porsche and work is guaranteed.

SVP is 300 miles from me but I know the car is in good hands and the work done is of a great quality. I'm going down next Tuesday for some tweeks and will probably be back in during the winter for some enhancements.

Dom knows every flavour of these cars inside out, the workshop is always packed wall to wall porsche.

Alan

usually some on ebay germany, think you have to be specific on cylinder numbering though?

Hi John F (if you're still out there!)

Where abouts was your oil leak coming from, and how much oil was being dropped?

Loads of oil being dropped
about 6 to 7 50 pence sized drops under the car after every run , A major contribution to the oil crisis
Main leak was from the timing cover chain housing where it joins to the block
Just for information
It is a misconception that the 964 leaks oil if it has no head gaskets fitted as there is no oil flow between the cylinder pot and head interface , (compression only)
They can leak where the cylinder pot joins the crank case , Big Job !
Also Through bolts on the crank case but to replace the upper ones with new seals the cylinders have to be removed

If you only have a small leak and it doesn't stink of burnt oil which drips on to the heat exchangers put up with it !

Hi John, thanks a lot for the reply and the information. Have you got yours sorted yet? (Cylinder sourced etc?)

Steve
