I know the feeling. I have a 964 C2, it still has the flat spot although I have tried changing quite a few things now. I have also now had the fan and fan housing sand blasted and powder coated, looks great but had problems with the alternator not charging the battery. I think that I have now found the problem. Before disconnecting the alternator I took some pictures and it seems that my friend got his wires crossed (literally) when putting it back.
Note to self: always take picture of things that you are not sure of. Invaluable.

The bloke in the background that looks as though he's trying to break into it is Paul Dalton of Miracle Detail. This is the photo before the detailing, but by the time he'd finished the light was going and it had started to rain. I'll dig out some photos of her at Goodwood FoS when she was shiny!
