Good evening, I am looking for the best 911 sc rhd targa available. Pre 1980. It must be in mint condition. Concours condition in the broadest sense of the word. Perfect detailing ; engine, body and interior. We won't fight over the right price.Thank you. Brian.

Good luck with the search, it was nice chatting with you at the NEC last month.

Hi Brian

I remember chatting at length with you at the NEC

Have dug out a few old records, but cannot vouch for their accuracy

The records I have say that 1729 Targa SC's were produced for the European market in 1978 and 3319 in 1979

However, of these I would not have expected more than 10% to have been RHD for the UK market

Ironically there are two for sale on Pistonheads now, both are RHD. I don't think they will meet your expectations in terms of condition but might be worth a look if you are prepared to have work done. They are advert numbers 1995689 and 2278144.

If you do come across a suitable car I have related chassis and engine numbers so just drop me a note

Finally, welcome to TIPEC

Thank you for your references to 911 Targa on Pistonheads. No luck I'm afraid. As you know I am looking for a complete minter which must be prior to 1980. It can have modifications but the body, engine, interior must be perfect and RHD. Do you think I should consider a left hooker? It is my intention to use the car for rallies etc but also for normal driving in good weather; would a LHD drive me crazy going into parking areas trying to put a card into a slot etc. There seem be be a lot of excellent US cars and European cars, which look expensive. Any wisdom on this issue out there? Kind regards, Brian.

From what I understand of the market in 911's it is very much a world market, with RHD cars being much in the minority, the market in europe is strong for good 911's , so no cheapies there , as our prices are lower generally, for the limited market RHD cars, even stateside cars are expensive now, when landed in UK, and you will find they require a lot of protection added to help them survive the UK climate

Cant understand why you want a minter and then rally it , one rally and its not a minter anymore :?

Many thanks Mike but I dont intend to "rally" it in that sense. It is for my golden years to go on calm European jaunts with my old buddies and also to use as a daily driver on state occasions and bonfire nights.

Kind regards, Brian.

Hi Brian

I have found another lead for you

Have a look at Pistonheads item 2364591, it's a 1977 car

It has only been on the site for a day and might be just for you

Finally if you decide to take a look and it looks good on an inspection by you and the paper work stands scrutiny then do get a proper professional inspection

Hi, don't know how your search is going but have found this http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2608463.htm , doesn't say if its RHD or not but looks good in the pics, maybe worth a call

Looks like a LHD to me from the position of the wipers and the way the interior rear view mirror is set

And the fact that it's in France may be an indication with a French mobile number and "mileage" is quoted in km.

Looks a very clean car, agree almost certainly LHD given mirror, kms,France, a bonus being a lefthooker,as you want to run it in Europe for your long runs, I never find it a problem driving my lefty, in fact the pre 996 cars are all lefties that have been 'converted' in the factory as Porsche never made a RHD model 911 pre 996, so all the earlier RHD cars are a compromise set up and balance to suit our market, pedal box position, floor pan etc. good news is a lefty is an easier car to sell in the relatively recent 911 world market, but beware you will not buy a lefty any cheaper because of the demand for good cars internationally. In fact if you have a good lefty over here you are better off selling it into Europe because of the strong prices :D

Good day all, still looking forthat elusive pre 1980 mint 911 Targa. The logic is that I want an open car and the sliding sun roof 911 does not do it for me. Thank you for the advice, unfortunately no progress. Any fresh ideas. Warm regards to all.

Hi Brian

Paul Stephens in Suffolk has a 1978 SC Targa "Sporto" at £20k

Expensive, ought to be fine at the price

Reasonable pictures on the "Classic Cars for Sale" web site

Perhaps see you again at NEC in November and hopefully with the news that you have got a car

The one I mentioned to you on the forum in February is still for sale, probably near in condition to the Sporto
