Had to get a couple of small parts in separate orders over past couple of weeks from Porsche Solihull.

Andy and Alex in Parts couldn't be more helpful. 928 bits often have to come from Germany which was case for both orders. One order was for a rack centreing bolt which costs about £4. This was duly ordered from Zuffenhausen, and I was phoned immediately after it arrived a couple of days later. In fact Solihull and Sutton Coldfield have never failed to ring me as promised to let me know a part has come in (or if there is some difficulty sourcing a part) on countless occasions. Have never once had to chase an order.

They would have posted both orders, but I picked them up as it's always a pleasure to chat with the parts guys. I get treated with same courtesy accorded to whoever else in the showroom is considering a Panamera Turbo, and both Andy and Alex show genuine interest in my 928 if I bring it in. Probably drink more in Cappucinos then I spend in parts! And always get copy of Christophorous (Porsche corporate mag) if it's a new edition.

Bolt cost £3.94 (you have to get this from Porsche - it's not a normal bolt but ground to a point to fit dimple in steering rack) and I was nevertheless given 10% TIPEC discount without having to ask for it as they've got to know me (928s need a lot of parts to keep going!).

tbh the vast bulk of my parts spending is in US dollars, but if I'm in a hurry or it's a very minor item then Solihull (and Sutton) are both a real pleasure to deal with. They are a microcosm too of fact that Porsche parts support for older vehicles is generally fantastic. Of course if I used them for servicing it would be prohibitively expensive (and outweigh cost of cappucinos), but for parts suggest you always consider OPC as an option - you may be surprised.

Glad to hear that the OPC are good. Tonbridge are excellent as I've heard are Exeter.

Hi,

I've found OPC Leeds to be excellent for parts for the '44. Marcus in parts is on first name terms with me. Last time I popped in to collect some spares, one of the salesmen shot out of the showroom and was making a big fuss of my 944 - "Not seen one of these years etc etc"

They're often cheaper on parts than all these other pretenders out there...
