In my search for a good, old-fashioned independent (= someone who knows what they are talking about but are also willing to talk to you) I thought I'd give Jon a try. So last Saturday I drove the 120 miles to his garage (such a chore  ) and left my car with him for 24K service, disks, brakes, brake fluid, MOT and general check-up.

While I cannot really make any informed comment on the quality of the work - I am not a mechanic - I can say that I was impressed by the attitude: he talks to you, explains things without being patronizing, he is very accommodating & helpful, and he actually charged 1/2 hour less than the estimate!

OK - his waiting room did not have a leather sofa and a 46' plasma on the wall, but you know what? who gives a %^&$£ - he came across as someone who knows what he is talking about, he's friendly and accommodating and I will certainly be going back.

I have used JMG for the last couple of years and can not agree with you more. He has always pulled out all the stops to help whenever I have had a problem.

In fact, thinking about it, every time I have had an estimate from him, it has nearly always ended up costing less, and on the other occasions its cost just the price of the estimate.

He once told me he always quotes worst case as he feels its better to give a customer a happy shock at the bill rather than an expensive shock!

When I was discussing my engine woes to him a few weeks back, he seemed keen to get it fixed and was giving his ideas on how to fix it in a clear and concise manner.

As some know I bought one of Jon's cars from him last year that had been sitting for 4 years before he got it. It's been back and forth a few times as we suspected it would but I still haven't paid anything yet for the faults. He stands by his warranty and won't take any money until he's fixed the fault to his satisfaction. Top Man and that's why people keep going back, because he's the most definitive 'Passionate about Porsche' person I've met.

Without wanting to rant on (yet again  )
JMG's the tops for me.
They have looked after my Tastefully Tweaked, ex Simon Peckham 944 Turbo since 2007.
Well worth the 450 mls Annual round trip and stay over for what I consider to be really excellent Reliable Service and Good Value to Boot :D .
I do look forward to the drive, especially an early morning run - light traffic there before 8am. 1st 190 miles in 3 hrs; enjoying the return home even more, it seems to run smoother with every visit.
This May I took a detour home (to Lincoln) via Cardiff to visit family = 650 miles, just a splendid car to drive  )
Fully recommend them.
Clive
