Hi - as the title says: any recommendations for a good place to look after my 944 would be very welcome!
Thanks,
Howard

having tried three local Porsche specialist garages in the leeds and surrounding area over the last 3 years there is only one i would give my money too.
Strasse Porsche. the so called specialist in wakefield and the other near elland road in leeds should be avoided at all costs.
Dave at strasse sorted all the problems the other two had failed to fix ( and even fixed the problems the other two garages had caused on the car when they were supposed to be fixing it). they are not cheap, but with all things in life you get what you pay for, and you are paying for someone who seems to know these cars inside out un-like the others who seem to want to just keep fitting more and more parts till the problem goes away, where Strasse look at the car , tell you whats wrong fit that replacement part and then give you back your car running like a dream. i have been happy with the minor work done at Strasse that the other could not fix, poor running turned out to be one injector seal and a fuel pressure regulator ( the other two garages had the car for weeks and could not sort it ????) i have now had new clutch, set of shocks , full brake refurbish etc , all done correctly and happy with the price .

hope this helps but these old cars need to be maintained and kept to a certain level so that can be reliable and used when you want. if you want to try and run it for the cost of a fiesta , you will have problems . if the car has had plenty of maintenance in the past then you maybe ok. my car is 23 years old and even some plastic pipes, silicone hoses, oil seals are all well past there expected service life so will all need replacing if i want trouble free motoring. FPR,FPD TPS etc all have a recommended replacement time of 60-80k approx, my car has done double that so having to change these parts does not seem over the top and if they last another 20 years i will be very happy. they are great cars but they aint cheap to look after properly.

good luck

Hi - that's really helpful, thanks very much. As it happens I got chatting to a guy I parked beside on Street Lane who has a 944 conv (bought by him new!) and he sang the praises of Strasse.

Do you know anything about Revolution Porsche in Brighouse: they seem to have a very good reputation too.

Chers, Howard
