Richard no problem didn't take out that way!

I'm taking mine to an Opc for service next month, in fairness the menu pricing is reasonable.

The menu price looks ok...........until you come to the turbo, then it doubles?

Yes that did strike me as a bit mean.

Just enquired about the service and found out that because I have a warranty on the car I have to pay an extra £400 of work, having spark plugs replaced and airbags inspected. This warranty is a effin joke, would have had the car discounted at purchase and lived without it if I'd known about all this nonsense

Well I'm even more annoyed now :(

Phoned Porsche Silverstone for a check quote against Reading. Asked if they would apply the TIPEC 10% discount and he replied "What's that?" I said it was the Porsche Enthusiats Club and he replied "Never heard of it so no!" I informed him that he needs to research his market more thoroughly and bid him good day!

This was after I'd asked the lady at Reading what she meant by optional items. She replied "Well, they're not optional if you want to keep your warranty". She was willing to discount 10% though.

This whole fiasco or rather the underhandedness of the dealings has rather dented my enthusiasm for remaining with the marque I have to say.

I thinks it depends on the perception of the warranty. For some it's worth every penny, others think its a tax on their car. My friend is about to renew his warranty on his 997 Turbo, and thinks its worth every penny. It has had £8,000 worth of work in the last year though.....

After the other thread about tyres turned into a discussion over OPC's and Porsche warranty, I though I'd start another thread. I'm happy with the service I get from my local independent. I've used him for a while and have a good relationship with him as he has looked after a few of my Porsches. I also have a good relationship with my local OPC, who have looked after my for my repairs and free quotes.

The fixed price service schedule from the OPC's is very competitive, for older cars, but doubles when it comes to turbos and GT 2/3. I get my servicing done at the local Indy, and my repairs done at OPC. What does everyone else think of the pricing?

I don't have an OPC warranty, but know people who think its good, and other who think its costing them more than its worth. It is, after all, a very good insurance policy. What does everyone think?

Personally think its not worth it for me but I'm generally adverse to too much insurance which is how I see this and I'm not averse to risk.

I ran the 996 for 5 years without it and am a bit annoyed with myself that I had it included in the deal for my 997.

Could a mod please extract the parts of the tyres thread from there to here now then?

This came up at the AGM, the Club and the relationship varies by franchise.

Sometimes with personnel within the franchise, one parts employee giving discount the other not :(

One guy travels and stays over in a B&B to get his car serviced at an OPC because his local OPC will not offer the same discounts.

I'm aware not all places offer it, that's fair enough in my opinion although it would be nice to have full coverage I don't mind ringing around.

What I was annoyed with was the FU type attitude that came back after daring to enquire about financials, something I never experienced in the network when I had my last two cars. I'll be swiftly back in the hands of an indie after my brief re-visit to OPC, I don't care if I don't get the flash courtesy cars. Yes the headline menu service figures are attractive but when you delve deeper into things it exposes them.

This all before the expected "Your car needs new tyres and brakes routine" when it's in service too!

An OPC wouldn't cover my 56 plate Boxster 'cos it's got N3 tyres on the front and N4 tyres on the rear and if they I'm going to chuck away front tyres with 4mm of tread on them just so they can get me to sign up on a warranty, they can think again.

The whole warranty thing is a gamble be it with an OPC, Warranty Direct or one of the independent schemes offered by some indy's and it depends upon your level of risk and how new your car is.

If I was buy a brand new or nearly new Porsche then I would take out the extended Porsche warranty but I'd also take out the OPC service pack scheme.....

On my Boxster, I have a Warranty Direct warranty and the services of the excellent indy garages such as JMG, GT One and Wrighttune, all of which I have used, all of which are excellent (as are so many other indy's).

Have a friend that works for Inchcape who own Portsmouth and Bournemouth OPC.

He's had a word and got me a very good price from the guys at Bournemouth with Boxster loaner for a day out on the South Coast. Nice attitude too.

It's not what you know but who as with everything in life!
