Just thought I would post a quick praise for the guys at RPM in Glasgow.

I Went to RPM after a recomendation from a freind, I'm glad i did. I have taken my 914 to them a couple of times now and they are very good. My freind who recommended them to me has been using them for his Porsches for years, as has his father.

I made my first visit to RPM recently. They’re very handy for getting to/from, being next-door to a train station.

I dropped my Turbo in there to have the wastegate adjusted before our Bruntingthorpe trackday. Good, quick, friendly service. A bit more expensive than my usual specialist, but much more local to me.

One thing though: I don’t think they’re very up on turbochargers/wastegates/tuning/etc. They had to stop and ask a couple of questions on what they were doing for me!

Tony

Just out of interest, what questions did they ask re: your turbo then?

I think it’s unusual to see an adjustable wastegate on a 944, so I don’t have any issue with the guys asking what it’s about.

I asked them to remove the wastegate, change the springs inside, and replace it.

That involved removing a single spring and replacing with two springs, one sat inside the other. They called to check that was what I intended, even though I’d given them the instruction booklet.

Whilst doing that, they found a flow restricting collar in my wastegate, which acts sort of like Promax’s boost enhancer (but not as well). They didn’t know what that was and whether it was meant to be there—I don’t think they got their heads around what effect it was having (restricting flow to the wastegate changing when it would open).
