Here here.
Earlier this year I suffered an extortion attempt on Pistonheads by someone posting a whole load of claptrap on the pistonheads forum at the exact time as someone emailing me saying unless I paid him £XXX he would rubish our reputation. I had to contact the Police, who viewed it as extortion, and my solicitor contacting Pistonheads who viewed it as libel. The result was the poster leaving loads of messages on that forum saying "Moderators - Please delete this thread", which was funny, but also shows how rogue customers exist and companies should have an element of support, but also that forum owners are open to libel for being the publisher of libellous media.
If someone has a legitimate complaint about my business, I prefer it if they ask me to look at it first, but if I do notice something on a forum, I choose to deal with it on the forum. If we have been in the wrong, I want to know about it, as I am sure Baz would, but also if I am not in the wrong, I will be happy to show how I was in the wrong... usually.
However, there was one case over the last few months where someone who was not in a position to afford their car, decided to put on a couple of forums that the reason they sold me their car was because in several years they had only driven it for a few months. Which implied that over those few years we were idiots or his car was unreliable. I decided to bite my lip about this, even though his car was with us for several months while we developed a new type of engine for it, which he was happy with at the time, it was out of his care for months while it had bodywork elsewhere, against our recommendation when we offered to re-shell it, and it spent the last couple of years here because he could not afford the bill for an engine rebuild, which we performed, which he authorised, and only once it was repaired did he say he could not afford it.. The only way I could ever see the money for the rebuild, was to buy his car off of him, so to be honest, he had no reason to complain.. but as a business, our name was still dirtied by his comments.. which was unfair.
I have seen the entire thread here with Baz, and to be honest it completely vindicates him and shows him to be great engineer as well as a diplomat in the face of what would seem to be a libellous @%&".
Well done Baz, its why I often recommend you to anyone in your neck of the woods!
