Organised a Porsche outing to Headcorn today, a small grass strip SE of Maidstone. The main reason to go was a display by the Vulcan, some of the other aircraft were pretty impressive as well.

It's funny that they can't keep it flying, when so many older planes still fly. Perhaps it is just so much more complex and expensive to maintain?

Yes a great shame, but it's now flown 10% more hours than any other Vulcan so getting into unknown territory. The big problem is the engines as they are down to last ones with no spares. The 3 companies providing tech support for the Vulcan have said they can't do so any longer given this, so CAA approval will lapse. We're lucky to still see it fly now as a few years ago the wing needed rebuilding, and it took some ingenuity as original jigs unavailable
