Hi Every one

Thinking of driving Helga back 'home' to visit Porsche museum and factory.

Anyone done the trip - any recommendations for routes and hotels along the way?

Thanks

ST

Sean organised our Dinslaken tour this year & found a cracking hotel near a lake (Der Seehof I think) that was excellent. I've never done the factory but would love to, it is deffo on my to do list. Don't forget the Mercedes museum is in Stuttgart as well.

I had one year with TPOC and went through them but we flew. All I can say is it's well worth doing the factory visit, we had dinner in their canteen which was outstanding. After the tour we went to their test track and were taken around in a Turbo, C4s and C2s, it was superb.

I've done the Ferrari factory too which is also well worth it and equally superb.

Best advice is don't do it on a Monday... its not open!

As said, the Mercedes Museum is very close and IMHO probably a better museum, I really enjoy the timeline format of the exhibition
To top them both is Sinsheim just north of Stuttgart which is well worth the visit and if coming from the north you actually pass by (look out for Concorde on the roof)

You may need a LEZ sticker for Stuttgart as it's a "green" centre - apply via municipal website. Or perhaps the factory is outside zone - does anyone know?

I was looking it up for my 928 and ironically it may not qualify, as despite having cat it was built prior to cut off year stated on Stuttgart website. When I visit museum I will check for certain!

I applied for the LEZ sticker when we went as a group a couple of years ago, but since then I've seen lots of people(including those from TIPEC) go to the factory without bothering with the sticker.
Only addition was to park under the museums rather than on the road where the vehicle may be spotted by a warden.

When going to the museum area we usually try to head over the Vosges mountains to enjoy the trip and roads rather than just doing the motorways all the way there..

Yep, Vosges region is good fun. Whilst at the museum, see if you can get a factory tour booking as well.

Did this trip earlier in the year on the way back from Italy & Austria. Stayed here - http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Revi ... mberg.html
The hotel is in a park area - no busy traffic & surrounded by sporting facilities like all weather pitches & so on. It was a 45 min trip in the rush hour to the factory & 30 mins back when it was less busy. Factory tour well worth it - saw the 911 assembly line - they make Boxters on that line too. Also saw the engine assembly plant. Saw the 918 assembly building but were not allowed in - saw 2 on the road outside though.
The museum is very well presented but when we were there there was a lot of material devoted to Udo Lindenburg who I had never heard of - he's a musician. There's a lot to do between the 2 attractions so allow most of the day.
Travelled back to Rotterdam via Frankfurt where the road works are a nightmare - avoid that area if you can.
