European breakdown cover for "classic" cars (old ones)

Post by Por968T »

Can anybody suggest a decent company for European breakdown cover for cars over 15 years old?

Planning to take the 968 to Italy in September for a 3 week tour of the lakes

I use Gem recovery in the UK but they don't cover anything i Europe older than 15years old

Are there any specialists the club recommends?

My bank does European breakdown recovery, but the best & unfortunately one I have used is AA 5Star cover.

Lots of Tipec members use Classicline insurance for their classic car policies, they are our preferred insurance partner, they offer very competitive classic insurance and probably the best and most comprehensive european breakdown and recovery cover out there, called ALPS and is free with your policy as a member of the club.

I have Classicline insurance with ALPS and I read all the details prior to a european trip a few months back and was happy to rely on it.

I didnt need to call them out thankfuly.

I have called them out once in the UK and they were very good at responding and recovering the car back home.

As above, I’d check your insurance policy as I am willing th footman james and they have a European breakdown cover you can take up with covers Europe (additional charge but not scary). I assume most classic policies offer this as a service. Failing hat RAC offer it for classics but it’s probably going to be expensive (same if not more than your annual insurance premium!)

I just did 9 days in France with my 14 year old Mercedes van, the RAC charged me £79 on top of my normal UK annual premium even after I negotiated. My pals are all telling me to use ADAC next time. They are Europe based but cover you here and on the continent. Have a good trip, Geoff

ADAC all the the way. Been a member for years and joined up at the Nurburgring. Their partner in the UK is the AA, cover for any year vehicle 2 or 4 wheeled and includes full European cover and my wife as a member too all for €79.00 a year......bargain.
Last time my mate tried to join they said they wan't taking any more UK members but I'm certain you'd be ok joining if you were in Germany.
Broke down only the other week in the 40 year old Range Rover and AA come out and changed the condenser.
