1991 Porsche 944 Turbo

159k miles

12 month MOT

Loads of history including stamped book and receipts

A unique combination of metallic Tahoe Blue with linen leather and marine blue piping. Originally a 944 S2 which had an engine swap for a 220BHP turbo engine with a new turbo clutch carried out by a Porsche specialist in 2005 complete with supporting invoices.

Service book is fully stamped by OPC and specialists to 2005 and 140k miles when the turbo engine was installed. This was followed by a handful of additional services at independents until 2013 when I purchased the car at 153k. In that time, I have carried out four services and a number of upgrades as detailed below. Mileage is now at 159k.

1991-2005 – full main dealer and specialist history stamped in the book

06/2005 – replacement turbo engine with 60k installed along with new turbo clutch with invoices

2005-2011 – two stamped services and paperwork for a third at 146k, 150k and 152k including a major service at JMG Porsche including belts, oil, plugs, transmission and rear diff fluids

2012 – 152k front disks, pads and wheel bearings

2013 – 153k oil service and new battery

2014 – 155k oil service, plugs, leads, distributor, rotor arm, thermostat, throttle position sensor, dump valve, engine mounts

2015 – 156k oil service

2016 – 158k oil service, oil cooler housing and oil pressure relief valve seals. Front wheel bearings, Koni Sport yellow adjustable dampers, updated 968 castor mounts, Uniroyal Rainsport 3 tyres, refurbished D90 alloys, laser alignment

2016 – 159k oil service plus all belts, rollers, water pump, cam tower gaskets, front ARB bushes, refurbished steering rack, PAS pipework, track rod ends. New genuine Porsche mat set in black

2017 – 159k oil service and laser alignment

Invoices for all work carried out back to 2005 and stamped up book before then. MOTs going back to 1998.

Though the paintwork is really striking from a distance and attracts a lot of positive attention it really could do with an overhaul if you’re that way inclined. I have many photos so just let me know if you need more. Previous owner had sills replaced a few years back and there has been welding to jacking points both of which are common areas for rust on 944s. The back of the rear arches are starting to show signs of rust as well as bubbling on the passenger side front wing and some spots on the leading roof edge near the windscreen. Drivers front wing appears to be non-original and as a result not a perfect fit. The colour to my eyes is really beautiful but most panels have had paint in the cars life. The sunroof has a couple of paint chips. I have a new sunroof seal to go with the car. The wheels were refurbed last year and one wheel has a scuff. The tyres have only done a couple of thousand miles, have lots of life and are superbly grippy. The exhaust is a nice stainless steel item which gives a nice beefy tone.

The suspension and steering have been refreshed and are generally sound. The adjustable dampers offer a comfortable ride which can be firmed up easily when required. I did 2.5k miles in it last year in the south of France and through the alps and it was a true delight. Copious amounts of torque to charge you up the mountain roads and wonderful road presence. I’ve stayed on top of the servicing in recent years ensuring regular fluid changes. The clutch is relatively young at 20k miles. The car pulls well with the turbo delivering good torque and the car stops and handles well too. I had been using the car regularly including the trip to France until I had knee surgery early this year which has put me out of action. The main frustration with the car for me was oil leaks in the engine bay. I started tackling these during the cambelt, rollers and seals service, cam tower gaskets, oil cooler seals and with the replacement steering rack and pipework. There are still a couple of leaks which if the car is left undriven for some time drip onto the exhaust manifold making it smoke for a few minutes before it clears.

The interior is a really nice place, the leather having been refurbished and redyed. There are the usual 944 cracks on the dashboard, some missing clips in the boot carpet etc but overall, it’s pretty good. The infamous dash clock works perfectly as does the electric windows, mirrors, sunroof, seats etc.

I’ve tried to describe the car honestly and highlighted its faults but I will probably have missed something so best to take a look and decide for yourself.
