Porsche 944 turbo, early 1998 220bhp model in Zermatt Silver. Just coming up to 156,00 miles. MOT until 26 Sep 2017. Mechanically standard car, and as far as I can tell from the history and the car itself it has never been performance modified. It has good service history with 24 stamps and an extensive, although not complete, file of receipts. The car comes with 2 keys.

The car is very solid; the previous owner had the inner and outer sills replaced on both sides. I have been through the whole car front to back and given it a refresh both mechanically and cosmetically. The highlights of which are new front suspension struts and springs, new rear dampers, and a 4 wheel alignment; 2 new rear tires; replaced broken alternator tension arm and put new belt on; repaired numerous electrical items such as the sunroof, clock, seat operation; the paint work has been cut, buffed and sealed; new decals applied colour matched to the wheels; Porsche Cup 1 wheels refurbished in Porsche metallic graphite colour with matching caps; new clear front and side indicator lenses; front seats repaired and re-coloured; new floor mats.

The car is now a stunning example but not 100% perfect. There are a couple of very minor dings in the bodywork that only became apparent after buffing. The headlining has some damage (as most of the 944s do) I have had it repaired and re-glued so it is presentable. There is a cover for the boot but it is broken, I am attempting to repair it. There was an advisory on the last MOT regarding the rear fuel lines, I will have this inspected when it goes up on the ramp.

£17500I will consider other front 4 Porsches in part exchange.

Car is located near Falkirk central Scotland. If seriously interested please PM me for my mobile number.

Managed to check out the auction.

£10k top bid, just shows where the market is at. A 356 passed out as well at £60k.

Good luck with the sale, the car based on the description sounds good.

Buying a car in the current market as an investment is fools gold. I am not saying don't buy a classic car, far from it. If you are looking to make a pile of cash beware. :D

No, this really doesn't show where the market is at!

It was one fairly small auction, that failed to get many serious buyers in. I spoke to a few people in the trade and another auctioneer whilst there and they were all of the opinion that the auction was a flop and that the organisers would have made a loss on the day with 19 of 47 cars not selling, and only 1 of 6 Porsches selling, and most of the top value cars getting little to zero action.

"Buying a car in the current market as an investment is fools gold" - not really sure where you are going with this?

I agree about the auction being small, several of the cars have also been kicking around eBay for months. That said a much bigger auction at Goodwood had similar results. High mileage or non original cars did not sell.
12 months ago everything would have sold, the market has shifted. Maybe it will bounce back after Brexit, the same thing is happening across Europe and the States.

Whilst at the NEC last year, the most common question was "what should I buy as an investment". My stock reply is, buy a car you like and if it appreciates you've done well.

Like I said your car sounds good from the description, GLWTS. :D

Like the Brexit comment, cant see long term economic and social suicide helping the Classic Car Market! I agree that for now (probably for the Brexit reason - uncertainty before - what?) that its a buyers market but many sellers haven't realised that yet (not referring to OP as I think this car is realistically priced).

I'd really like the car to go to an enthusiast so I am reducing the price to £16,495. A new MOT will also be provided.

The car will be on show at the Ignition Festival in Glasgow SECC this weekend from Friday 4th - Sunday 6th on the TIPEC stand. This is an absolutely fantastic event and well worth the trip.

Its a similar colour to my 944, but think even my Mrs would notice the difference between them, and hole in the bank account......

Lovely car, good luck with sale.

Ian

Sean's read of the market is very shrewd. In my business we have to be well aware of consumer confidence and monitor it very carefully. Regardless of your politics, fact is confidence which was fragile anyway since the EU referendum, took a huge hit after the election created even more political uncertainty and confusion. The effects on housing and new car markets already clear.

Of course none of this affects multi-millionaires buying a GTO, but at our less rarified end of the Porsche market it has a very real, dampening effect.

You guys could well be right, to an extent at least. Been doing some research regarding classic / modern classic car market and the reports are all over the place and fairly contradictory, with the common theme being "we're not really sure" because some cars are still increasing, some cars expected to increase didn't, unexpected cars have increased etc etc But one thing they all seemed to agree on was that 80's and 90's cars (particularly sporty German cars inc the 944) are very popular and still climbing. However, most of those cars are still in the enthusiast budget range £2k - £10k. The 944 turbos seem to have increased to a no-mans land value i.e. They are now too expensive for your average enthusiast, and not likely to go high enough for a speculator (unless it's a rare variant or exceptional car).

Back to this car. It is still for sale and I have decided to try again with an auction. It will be in the Morris Leslie Classic Car auction on Sat 19th August at Errol Airfield, Perth. This is a much larger auction and much larger company. And this time the car will be in the brochure and on-line, and available for viewings well before the auction.

I need to move the car on so have set a relatively low reserve. If you have been sitting on the fence about the car get yourselves signed up and you might snag yourself a bargain.

Give the seller a break. Your not helping his advert, just cluttering it up non sale talk.

If I was in the market for another turbo, id happily pay 15-16k, so long as it was tip top condition. Mileage not an issue in my experience, so long as its has been maintained.

My advice is not to sell the car. I regretted selling my turbo and you will too!

GLWS sale. Its a lovely car and worth every penny im sure...
