Hello.

I am searching high and low for my next car. I would be interested to hear from anyone with a good, solid 944s2 or 968. I would like to hear from you if you are thinking of selling.

In the mean time, I'll keep my eyes peeled!

Thanks for reading. Hope to hear from you soon.

Regards.

Marcus.

Hi Pauly.

I'm sorry, I'm not with you. I'm new to this forum so I might be missing something here.

I'll try to explain my situation better.

After having our first daughter my wife and I swapped cars and i lost my BMW 330d and gained her Citroen c2! I drove it for as long as I could manage and decided I need something exciting for my commute. I purchased a 1992 Saab 900 turbo that was lots of fun but not quite my cup of tea. I'm now looking for the next bit of fun to liven up my daily commute and thought a 944 would do well.

Unfortunately, I have been too slow on the uptake to general adverts (they go quickly)and have missed any of the ones that seem suitable for me, thus the post to see if anyone out there has anything they would be interested in selling to me.

i can only assume from your message that you think I might be a dealer. I'm not. I just want a nice car to enjoy.

Regards.

Marcus.

Hi Porsche folk!

I have found a potential and would like your honest opinions.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/232043300698

Is it priced sensibly? Is there anything I should worry about 'slight bubbling around the windscreen' even though it looks minor, it's strong money for something that's not perfect. What do I really need to be looking for?

I like the look of it, but I'm far too careful! Due to see it next week.

Anything you can suggest will help me.

Thanks in advance.

It is top dollar price and the car does look shiny after the respray However I find thwe advert contradictatory, It says at the top:

"August 2016 Restoration (Finished in August Started end of 2015)"

That means it was finished 10 days ago - so not been to many car show recently Also make me wonder when it says

"£18,600 of receipts for work done since 2002"

If it's had all this money chucked at it - why did it need restoring? I wouldn't chuck a load of money at a car that needs that much restoring - would be cheaper to buy another....

"£7,600 receipts of work done since 2012 (Under 10,000 miles done since) "

This next bit seems cheap if it includes the Cambelt and rollers from a Porshe specialist garage - The cambelt stuff needs changing every 4 years regardless of use, so I'd check the date on that - it's also usually god to change the water pump at the same time (access oportunity) if not done recently
"
Cambelt and rollers changed 300 miles ago by a Porsche specialist garage
Miles 133145 date 07/03/2015, Front discs and pads , repair calliper, replace rotor arm, adjust boot hatch, front wheel bearing, plugs. £758.59"

136 K miles as well - Doesn't tell you much about the engine either Sounds like it may have been bought cheap - tarted up and now for sale - certainly not been used much this year. I'd look on Pistonheads before deciding if I were you. My 92 S2 cost 6900 with 110k miles on about 5 years back. I prefer to buy a decent immac clean car - and have things like cambelts done myself - so I.m SURE they're done There's quite a few around if you wait.

For the money spent on that car - wouldn't have thought it would need restoring to that extent

I'm also picky and suspicious. ))

The bubbling round the windscreen would be a concern for me at this price. Especially when the main selling point of the car is the full restoration and respray. The price seems a tad high to me.

It looks nice in the pics though.

Have a look, but can an open mind.

It's a crap paint job if it's bubbling around the windscreen already.

Full respray? He means half a respray if the bonnet, roof and bumpers not done.

Why not do it all if you're doing a 'full' restoration?

Don't forget this one at half the price...

Thanks everyone. Some good advice there.

I'm so intreagued that I'll go and see it. The difficulty I've always had is that one mans 'good condition' is anther mans wreck. And the same vice-versa. I just need to view it with an open mind and I'll bare all your remarks as I view it, I'll keep you posted.

I have a couple others that are potentials too. There's this one......

http://m.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C717258#description

And there's another that sounds interesting too. I won't put the link up as its on a lesser know sales site and I wouldn't want to be beaten to yet another good car by a brave, cash heavy dealer!

Thanks (again) for the White 944s link, they really seem much better value than the s2, but having never driven either in anger, I have no real experience to speak of. I just prefer the s2's.

I'll get there soon!

That looks like a lovely car. I searched the web the the plate and found this (which I remember seeing at the time):

https://www.porscheclubgb.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=912808

Lots more detail there. You could maybe message the previous owner to find out more about the car.

My advice would be that at this sort of money the car should be amongst the best in the country. Go round it with a magnet and make sure no body work is required. Also, depending on how good you are at this type of thing, take someone with you who knows paint. Someone with experience will be able to see all the areas the car has been sprayed. My guess is you'll not be too happy if it needs a respray after spending this much.

Hope you find a really great car. And once you've got it let us know what this other carsales website you're using is wont you :D

Thank you everybody for all your help.
I'm happy to say that after viewing two black 944's this week I now own one! It's the one that was on the eBay link. The quality of the work already carried out backed up with the in-depth service history gave me confidence that the car was a good one. The 3 1/2 hour journey back in the small hours of this morning after I collected the car confirmed that the everything seems as it should. I have a few tidying up jobs to do but there is nothing urgent. I will be no doubt relying on your experiences to help me make suitable improvements.

Thanks again for all your help. Right now it's just stopped raining so I'm going for a drive.

Marcus.

Well done Marcus, pleased you got what you wanted. Like many have said there is a lot of good advice on here when you need it.

Now we just have to convince you to join the club :)

Sorry I probably changed the weather, having sold the cab, I bought another cab, picked it up on Thursday evening and there is an immediate weather change.
