I completely forgot to put an add in here, but my 930 needing a respray went on ebay last week and the bidding has gone mental!!

Currently at £25k, 544 watchers and 7000 page views on ebay

http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/281305503911

It is MOT'ed for a year, runs great, and is without warranty, but I do believe it just needs a respray and a couple of odds and ends like one rear light cluster... Currently changing hands for £50k who knows what this one will sell for.

The mad thing is, it was on the company website for a couple of months with an asking price of £24k, several people viewed it, but no takers.

Many reasons why I would not paint it and restore it myself, as many of you may know, I have a car collecting problem and need to cut down, and if I painted this one, I would never be able to sell it.

But also, I do not want to get a reputation for painting cars and flogging them on.. I would rather someone bought this with their eyes open.

Wow, too late for a p/ex on the 944 Guards red Turbo then :) .
544+1 Watcher > Interesting to see what price it will go for - perhaps to a rich pensioner getting it at a bargain instead of a Lambo
Good luck with the sale, get a few more of your cars on while your in the mood! (and on a winning streak!) BOOST the cash flow :D

Project cars seem to be doing very well on eBay at the moment. I've been watching Lotus Esprits for the last few months and it seems to be the projects that need work done that are attracting bids on eBay. In some cases it seems to defy logic as I have seen good condition cars struggling to sell at prices not much higher.

Yes Clive! The plan is to get rid of most of my car collection so I can concentrate on the ones I really want. The plan is to keep my dads old Roller, have a daily car I can put the dogs in (probably keep my BMW touring for that) and own about 3 Porsche. One being my white 86 turbo, another being my white 84 lux which will be my disposable trackday car and having one air cooled Porsche, which will either be a toss up between a left hand drive 993 C2 or a early lhd 911 as a retro Magnus Walker style hot rod... Which still might seem excessive, but a far cry from the 10 project cars I have at the workshop and the 10 better cars I have in storage.

Next ones to go will be my 996 C4 Cabrio and a couple of my 944 Turbos, and then keep going on from there!

Mike, I think it is the way the market is going, the values of Porsche cars are going up, in some cases to insane levels.. I have been contacted by people in the auction about this turbo who are interested because the ones advertised for £50k to £60k are less than mint in the flesh, or in some cases are the wrong colours.. So some people might be finding it apealing that this one is in a colour they want, but in other cases are thinking "If it needs a respray, it can change to the colour I want!"... But I think as a whole, people are going for projects, partly to put their stamp on the car, but also because it is a lot nicer to know a car is right, having done everything to it, rather than take the risk and spend more to get one which seem perfect but could turn into monsters.

At the end of the day, half the reason this one went on ebay is because it is impossible to know what it is worth. Even things like classic car guides for mint examples are not following actual market values as it has become a bit of a sellers market.. So I decided the best way of knowing its value is to put it on ebay and let the crowd decide the market value.

I was initially expecting it to get £20k to be honest, and I did have it on a dark corner of the company website for £23,995, but would have accepted £20k, bellow that price it would have broken up for that price.

I even put on a "buy it now" price of £30k on the auction listing originally, and a reserve of £20k, but only put the buy it now price based on "If someone asks me to end early, what price would I want to have no risk of it getting more if the auction ran.." But as soon as the bidding hit £20k the BIN price vanished automatically.. Which I suspect that some people would have hit, if the button had not vanished... So I am quite shocked how high it is going already.

Almost 10,000 page views on ebay, 631 watchers and at £25,600 with 41 bidders and yet it does not end until 7pm tonight.. I think it may well crack the 30k mark.

All getting re-invested into the business though, now the clouds of recession are clearing, I need to gear up and improve the business, not only with equipment, but improving our communication training.. But also spending some money on the rest of my car collection to get them sold too, so all in all, it is the right time to sell her... The mad thing is she starts on the button, everything works, she has a new MOT and with a bit of paint and recommissioning, she will be an awesome value car and worth £50k to £60k or beyond.. But, my business is not painting cars and flogging them and I do not want to get a reputation of selling projects which have been tarted up.. So I would end up getting carried away and the car would end up being one of the best in the country and having cost more than it was worth..

I just keep trying to talk myself into the fact I am doing the right thing... But she is sooooo sexy... Its like getting a divorce from Gerry Hall, you just know she is no good for you, but a maid in the lounge, a chef in the kitchen and a whore in the bedroom is a compelling argument to keep her! lol

No Paul, that is still going ahead.. the whole point of that car is one of emotion.. Fed up with so many customers versions which fell short of expectations due to them listening to RennList rather than the advice of experience.. So that car is to be finished, enjoyed, featured and then sold. Probably sold at a loss, but it will make up for all the times in the past I sighed at specification mistakes by customers following experts on RennList.

Now we only perform mods and projects if we entirely agree with the project spec right at the start, which should make life more enjoyable and customers cars more potent!

The TWR (previously Arrows F1 and Jaguar/Silk cut le mans) 944 Turbo will also be getting done, finished, featured and sold, hopefully want to get the Tom Walkinshaw estate to ad their approval to it and see if they have any photos from back in the day too.

Even my 924 Turbo's will be going!

One watercooled 944 Turbo, one air cooled vision and one track day car is enough.. isnt it?

Is your 968 LHD Jon ? If so it will make strong money selling it to Europe. The guy I bought the Carrillo's from sold his supercharged Clubsport to someone from France I think, though I heard it went pop again after the guy got it home.

Don't all the supercharged 968's go pop?

I think I have had every owner who has bought one of those has called me to pick my brains, and I know of at least 4 of them with issues and that one, if it is the one I am thinking of, has had two engines detonate now in one year!!

What exactly are these people thinking? Bad concept.. A forced induction engine needs to be built as a forced induction engine.. I do not know of a Porsche engine, built using non turbo spec pistons and compression ratio which has lasted with either standard non turbo or milled non turbo pistons.

The 968 with two detonating engines in one year is a good example of why my 968 Turbo needs finishing.. Another 968 owner with forced induction who has completely ignored my detailed advice

I dont know much about it other than it was a yellow CS and the first engine broke a standard rod, I think he bought the forged rods and then changed his mind and got rid after putting another standard engine in.

Very pleased with the result.. Needless to say....

----- SOLD -----

The car is going to Derby and the new owner who viewed it yesterday is absolutely stoked at his project! Am going to convince him to join up here and post a thread of the return of the Pheonix 930.
