The Porsche 911 Turbo, accept no substitutes.

In 1974 Porsche released the 911 Turbo, known also as the 930. By the time example was built in 1982 Porsche had increased the engine capacity to 3.3 Litres and added an intercooler to boost performance to over 300 BHP.

Installed with a whale tail spoiler by the Porsche engineers to house that intercooler, along with wide body wheel arches to accommodate a wider track and wider wheels, this 911 Turbo is the Porsche most people imagine when anyone mentions a Porsche 911. The ultimate icon of the 1980's.

Not only is this your chance to own the iconic Porsche 911 Turbo, but this one features the guards red exterior and sports seats interior in black leather with red piping, which everyone associates with a Porsche from this era.

With fully electric adjustable windows, seats, sunroof and mirrors, this Porsche is also equipped with a luxury pack that in its day would have seemed very extravagant and even futuristic.

At the time and since, may people complained that the 911 Turbo suffered from some turbo lag, and due to californian emissions regulations the exhaust was somewhat restrictive/

However this Porsche 911 Turbo is a little different. The turbo has been replaced with an high quality hybrid 9XX turbo to reduce lag and produce its boost in a more efficient way.

The exhaust has been replaced with a fully stainless steel exhaust from FabSpeed to reduce restriction while also improving the exhaust note and reducing lag further.

The intercooler has been replaced with a Kokeln item, which reduces intake temperatures while also dealing with a further restriction to performance.

The original waste-gates were made from cast iron, this car has had a 9XX Waste-gate installed, which not only benefits from higher quality construction, but also more accurately controls boost than the original Porsche part.

The result of these improvements mean that this particular 911 Turbo produces over 425 BHP at an original and conservative Porsche boost level of 0.7 Bar (10.5 PSI).

The previous owner did not only want to improve performance, but he also wanted to make sure it did so safely. So this car was also fitted with a 9XX Boost controller, and electronic fuelling curve improver and an air fuel ratio gauge to ensure that the mixtures remained safe at all times.

This car has been tested and set up to allow a maximum boost level of 1.2 Bar (18 PSI) which we do not know the performance figures for, as it proved to be almost impossible to gain traction at whatever BHP it was producing at that point.

However, none of these modifications are permanent, any of them can be unbolted and the original parts re-installed, which we have most of from when we performed the original modifications for the previous owner.

Although the car comes with all these parts installed within the buying price of the car, for just a small labour charge and retaining the tuned parts in exchange for standard parts, JMG can remove the parts and return the car back to standard performance levels without a trace or expense.

Now the bad part. As you may have noticed from the photographs, this particular 911 Turbo has some paintwork issues.

A couple of years ago, this car was safely locked in a storage building, protected with a plastic car cover, when a building next door caught fire. The heat melted the car cover onto the Porsche, caused some of the paint to blister and flake off. Luckily this car did not catch fire, and as far as we can tell, the only damage is purely cosmetic.

An insurance company did pay the previous owner for the repairs, however the car was NOT registered as a wright off, as it was a building insurance policy that was claimed on, not a car policy.

Other than that, this car has a very clean history, apart from many years ago when it suffered superficial damage to a front and rear wing (photos available). In this case the owner did not allow the insurance company to repair it, instead having it repaired by a specialist, which did result in a minor mark on its HPI history file.

The mileage reported on the odometer is around 45000 miles, however we have reason to believe, having seen the service history that the odometer was changed many years ago and we are unsure if the current mileage is completely correct and it could be as much as 43,000 miles higher than this. Therefore it is safer to assume this is a 90,000 mile car, rather than a 45000 mile car.

However it has had an engine rebuild at some point in the cars history since the odometer was changed, therefore, it is safe to assume the engine has 45000 miles on it or less.

The cosmetic repairs are likely to cost £6000, including some allowance for replacement of some items of rubber trim, which although they do not seem to have suffered, would look much better if they were replaced during the respray due to their 32 years of age.

As of the date of writing this, there are 10 other 911 Turbos for sale in the UK, all priced between £42k and £60k, making this one a particular bargain.

At the moment we are accepting viewings of this car and inviting offers for it in the region of half its value when completed, leaving profit in the car for a Porsche restorer to rebuild it, or some private buyer the chance to obtain a dream car at a reasonable price.

We also would be happy to help any potential buyer wherever we can with this car, weather that being just technical support, returning the car to standard form mechanically or even a full restoration. Prices available for this in request with the amount being dependent on the scope of work requested.

UPDATE ***

Due to a potential buyer backing out due to financial difficulties, this car is now ready for its MOT, requiring just cosmetic repairs to complete. Therefore the car is being placed on ebay as an auction item and http://www.pistonheads.com for sale with immediate effect.

Since taking the photos the car is now installed with the original Porsche flag mirrors that it left the factory with, which were removed from the car when the 964 turbo cup mirrors were installed.

The car is also listed on Pistonheads and on an ebay auction, Contact us for more details, we will welcome offers right up until the ebay auction ends. However, if someone offers the right amount of money it is theirs without delay!!

The car is also listed on the company website here - http://www.jmgporsche.co.uk/index.php/menu-carsforsale/projectandtrade/911turbo

This car is of course for sale without a warranty, as we expect it to have teething problems. We doubt these issues would be anything serious and we welcome any inspection, however this is a 32 year old car which has been stored for the last couple of years, so expect the unexpected and do not go planning on driving it to Germany on its maiden voyage. Common sense really. :)

And what its worth?? Who knows.. there are 10 real 930's on Pistonheads at the moment, with the lowest priced one being £42k and the 4 most expensive ones all being at about £60k!!! But this one needs paint, needs some TLC and most of all a good home... I do not expect to get £40k for her, but at the same time I will turn down offers of £10k, so make offers, I will not be offended, as long as you are not offended if I do not accept the offers... Or pop along to ebay and make a bid of what you would pay... The auction starts at 7:15 tonight and I will post a link once it is live!
