1989 Baltic Blue Porsche 944 S2
115,000 miles , full main dealer / Porsche specialist service history.
This car is in near showroom condition having been subjected to a comprehensive programme of work and upgrades over the past two years. This has included a full re-spray in Porsche LM5P – Taubenblau (Baltic Blue Metallic) photos and full schedule of works available, and a genuine Porsche bridges spoiler fitted, some minor performance upgrades to the engine – uprated engine chip, K&N panel filter, up-rated fuel pressure regulator and alternator, BoschS5 Heavy Duty battery, replacement belts, new rear crank seal, and some light detailing to the engine bay. Underneath the suspension components have all been refurbished and finished in satin black, a full custom stainless steel performance exhaust (Longlife) has been fitted – to be honest the straight through rear box and large diameter tailpipe are a bit too fruity for my tastes, but there is no denying the quality (transferable lifetime guarantee) - , the brake calipers have been painted in Porsche Guards Red, and the D90 wheels have been subjected to a full, acid dip / powder-coat/ lacquer refurb and are fitted with coloured Porsche crests.
Inside the cabin is exceptionally clean – quite a feat with white carpets – and features two-way electric seats upholstered in the original white vinyl (very much of the period), a black leather 968 steering wheel, all the electrics work as they should, the sunroof has recently had new gear wheels fitted, and a discrete Blaupunkt head unit has also been added. In the last month I have also fitted new hatch pins, new headlight bulbs, new bonnet struts, front clear indicator lenses which are far more suited to the body colour than the original orange, (which will be supplied along with the car).
The previous owner also fitted a Clifford Concept 650mk 2 alarm / immobiliser, at a cost of £325:00 so security will not be an issue.
The car drives exceptionally well and pulls like an S2 ought to.
So, as I said at the start, the car is ‘near’ showroom condition but not perfect – if i had been keeping the car I would be looking to do the following:
• Replace the gear lever to address the usual sloppy change (JMG –9XX upgrade)
• The rear hatch glass will need re-bonding at some point (purely age-related) – don’t they all?
• Near-side wing mirror glass and holder seem to have come a bit adrift from the motorised back plate – they adjust to some degree and can be set correctly by hand
• Change rear box and tail-pipe (purely personal preference)
• New clock LCD panel (has the usual half-moon, but is working)
• Driver’s side electric window switch is not fitted perfectly (3 mm gap at the top – can just be seen in one of the photos)
• Jack handle is missing, as is the original compressor and tool kit, the jack is present and the spare wheel is in perfect condition.
• And the most important issue – there is a 1cm chip in the offside front wing from where a rattle can was dropped (nightmare) (see photo)
As i said, I am a bit of a perfectionist hence the length of the list, the good news is that all of the above is easy and not expensive to address and I will probably sort some of these out anyway – I will also be applying a further dose of Dinitrol cavity wax to the sills before she goes.
I have been told S2’s as good as this are worth £7k any day of the week and will appreciate strongly (this one comes with a detailed bill of sale from June 2013 for £7995, the previous owner finding themselves in financial straits and needing a really quick sale) – but given the list of minors that need addressing to make things perfect– I am looking for £6450.00 as she stands. The car can be viewed in North Bedfordshire.
If the purchaser would like the rear hatch bonding done, and a JMG-9XX upgraded gear level fitted the price would rise to £6750.
Hopefully an S2 this good will find a good home soon – please don’t consign me to Pistonheads…loads of photos an photobucket: http://s1034.photobucket.com/user/bobsS2/library/

Any feedback of any sort appreciated! Am I way off on price? , to be honest I don't think I am given the work put into the car and the mileage - have I been a little too honest in the advert? I just don't want any prospective purchaser to be anything other than delighted.....

you will be lucky to get £2.5k in my opinion.
have the sills and rear quarter panels .rear suspension mount areas been replaced ?
Unfortunately all the cost of running one is never recoverable and is just the cost of keeping the car useable.
For your asking price a concours low mileage would be nearer expectations.

It sounds like a good well maintained example, if it is as described £2.5k is an insult!

Get some good photos up as that will help no end ;)

I would agree 2.5K is an insult but also think its at the top end of the price scale near 7K so good photos and have the few things that don't work fixed to make it perfect.

feedback was asked for and as the seller doesn't mention items such as sills , clutch replacement, suspension replacement, head gasket replaced etc etc (all the normal things which need doing to a car of this age and mileage ) then it is only worth what I said , it would need at least £4-5k spending on it to make it a reliable great 944S2 and would then be worth nearer the asking price.
A good well sorted turbo can be had for the same money.
Having bought a 944 S2 3 years ago which was well looked after I know what I have spent from a base price of £2.5k.
No insult just realistic , in my opinion.

Nick,
I would agree based on your argument without confirmation of the important things like sills, wing bottoms, clutch, cams, head etc. and decent photos then its always going to be worth the lower end of the market value. I recently sold my S2 which unfortunately needed a new bottom end (engine bores scored and piston slap) to my mechanic after having a replacement head and all ancillaries built and fitted for a very low price (sub £2K) because I had lost faith but without the engine issue it was valued even as a part ex at over £4.5K. I just could not handle any more disappointment and mine had solid sills, wings, original paint, black leather and everything else working even the clock, mirrors etc and 17" cup1 wheels with a clutch change around 2000miles previous 8 months MOT and tax.

Does the link to photobucket at the end of the main posting not work for you guys, there are 16 photos there as I had trouble uploading to this site.

If it were a bag of nails requiring 4.5k to be spent on it I wouldn't have described it as 'near perfect', there is no rust, the car is mechanically very strong and has had a top end rebuild (but I have no evidence of this in the paperwork, just the previous owners say so - thus I did not mention it in the posting) - there is a sheaf of bills and all manuals. I have owned over 50 cars in my lifetime and this one is a belter.
As to values, I just checked on PH and Autotrader and found 8 S2 Coupes for sale, details below:

Prices range from 4.5k to 9.5 k, but interestingly the average is £6689 and the average mileage is 113,285 making mine marginally below average price and equally marginally above average mileage, which to anyone who knows even basic maths makes it bang on for value.

Please let me know if the photolink doesn't work, and by the way if anyone has an S2 in comparable condition for sale at £2.5k I will buy each and every one.. :D

I've added a link to one of your pictures for you. Your car looks lovely. It's missing two rubber bonnet supports though

The new photo link works and the car looks very nice, its a shame you don't have paperwork for the top end work at least that might give some indication of the condition of the bores/cams/valve guides. Having been bitten badly by this recently it worries me.

Anyway good luck with the sale I hope you get what you want for it unfortunately not my favorite color combination so not for me.

I've had a good look at the pictures via your link and the detailed description you have given.

Presuming the car is as solid as it looks and the sills require no work I think that your price isn't too far off its worth.

But, as usual the buyers are dictating what cars sell for and currently there aren't that many out there looking for S2's at this price level.

I have passed your details onto a friend who has already said that if it was a Turbo he would have been in touch to view the car, but is ideally wanting a Turbo car.

Good luck with your sale :D

Don't forget people want cars for nothing , I have owned plenty on 944s and your car is worth £4750.to £5250 max, no matter how much you have spend keeping a 25yr old running , it will never be a Porsche sort after classic ,I am sorry to say , as the engines in the wrong place , but saying that there are a great car

Paid £3,200 for my S2 2 years ago,was in vgc & fsh, but have not stopped spending since close to 7k, but remember you will never get back what you payout, have agreed value on mine at £5600, good ones are hard to find these days & in my opinion the best 944 to own.But would say constructively that ,your price is a little high,or maybe get all jobs done then you will be able demand a good price.

Hope this has been helpful.
