Post subject:  Hartech rebuilt Cayman S for sale

After soooooooo much thought and consideration I've decided to put my manual Cayman S up for sale - for the simple reason that, being a semi-disabled driver, my weak left leg is showing signs of struggling with the clutch. The clutch isn't heavy but my leg is weak and I'll be looking for a 2.7 manual as, having driven a few now, the clutch is lighter (tiptronics are not for me alas). It'll probably be a Boxster. The car's presently on JMG's maintenance plan and all the work below has been carried out by them (except the Hartech rebuild). Jon Mitchell says it's now a 'fine example'.

So, for anyone who might be interested here's a basic run down that I'll add to later:
Arctic silver, '06, 52K, manual
Hartech engine rebuild in August just gone with 21 months left on their warranty
Recent new tyres, starter motor, alternator, lamda sensors, coil packs, rear coil springs, air con pipes, battery, discs & pads all round - most of these items I had done simply because I wanted it in top shape.
MOT til October 2014, Tax til May.
18" Cayman S wheels
Spec includes PCM sat nav and heated seats (am not too sure what features on it are standard and what isn't but there's no chrono or PASM).

The Engine Rebuild
The engine was stripped by JMG and shipped to Hartech due to bore scoring on cylinder 6 and was later re-fitted by JMG. Whilst the engine was out I opted to have the IMS upgraded, all cylinders strengthened, new chain guides and a low temperature thermostat fitted. These 'extras' were recommended by JMG. 3 pistons were replaced also and of course all the gaskets etc.. JM said the engine would be better than new afterwards and oh boy was he right - it's truly fantastic. It runs now on Millers Nanodrive CFS 10w50 and this oil has to be used for the warranty to remain valid. It's had a new RMS fitted also.

The car then is in excellent shape, with the tiniest of stone chips on the nose, and no worn driver's seat bolster and has had a huge amount of money spent on it and it seems reasonable to ask a higher premium to reflect the condition & future proof element. I'd be looking then to achieve above 20K for it.

Feel free to PM for more details - I'm presently busy scanning all the documentation, service history etc. for any inspection. Any comments would also be appreciated.

Good luck with the sale Wayne.... a fully rebuilt Hartech engine is better than the original, as "bomb proof" as possible, and should be a very attractive to purchasers. Incidentally NW region are on a visit to Hartech tomorrow.

You may not be a Tiptronic fan, but have you considered a 981 base model with PDK? I'm a big fan of PDK it does everything I want it to do.

I'd echo what Tony has said, good luck.

The modern tip or pdk really is excellent, I'm a manual man through and through and never thought I'd ever have a tip but really enjoy a different way of driving.

Don't dismiss it until you've spent some time with it.

Hey thanks, good points guys but I can't afford a 981 and tips just don't do it for me, soz lol. I've got my eye on a Boxster from Ray Northway - seems a good bet?
She's on Pistonheads now with pics at:

Ray Northway is excellent, he's a great mechanic & one of the few indies I'd trust, he did a lot of work on the 944.

Don't expect a sales experience though like coffee & doughnuts, that isn't what they do.

Yep, seems a well decent bloke - threw in some tax for the Boxster

She's now in AT (some may have noticed) at a 'will listen to sensible offers' price of £19,995.

Driving out today makes me seriously question selling this beaut! Top down Boxster this morning, Cayman in the afternoon with sun and great views of soaked Hampshire. Now for Aldi's roast beef, wine and Top Gear - brilliant. Thanks largely to the guy who said he was gonna come see the car but didn't show (naughty Tipec member - hardly the spirit!).

Your Boxster is a very nice example and I love the looks and handling of the Cayman.

Would I trade both in for a Cayman R or new Cayman...... probably. :-)

Okay, after much research and asking all over the place I'm reducing the price to a more sensible £17,995 ono. Now that seems a fair price for a properly sorted Cayman S. The fact that she's now in full view constantly, as she's parked on the back garden because part of the house roof that hangs over our corrugated-plastic roofed garage is about to collapse, it makes it even harder to part with. Twas easier when she was hidden in the garage.

I have a loan Boxster while my car is in for service. Lovely sunny day, roof down and sports exhaust yet I still prefer the more focussed Cayman.

:D
