Hi Brett,

Thats great.
Nobody can say 100% that they will be there.
I am sure that everyone would love to see you beat that time.
Personally I would be happy to see you beat the 'other' Porsches.

Many thanks,
Stephen

I am thinking about making it a target date for completion ... so fingers crossed.
Still need to get steering done, cam belt, belts, welding on arch, sort the fog lights, electric windows, MOT, respray and I am there. I think!

Hi Watchcam

It will be a great chance to meet all the 928 people and I hope many, many more.
All events are dependant on the people and cars turning up for them.
A bad turn out means the event may not happen again.
We should get as much use and pleasure out of them as possible.

Live and breathe the Marque,
Stephen

I would echo that, for very little money you will have an opportunity to do something that will be a lot of fun. The best part of a day like this is the banter and meeting people.

For those that are tempted but don't want to be shown up or are worried about breaking their pride and joy. The reallity is you have all sprinted off the line at the lights many, many times this is no different. You go as fast as you feel comfortable, you have several runs to build your confidence and feel your way into it.

All sorts turn up on a RWYB day, I've even seen a Metro Mayfair pull up in front of the lights. It didn't break any records but the kid driving it had a big smile on his face when he pulled round to the paddock area.

I used to go to the VW show when it was at the TRL most years. That was great fun in my GTI.

Funniest thing I saw was a Polo G40 that accelerated away off the line in such a way that its exhaust back section shot backwards off the car! Needless to say its didn't go very far.

Funnier was to come though ... someone ran out, grabbed the exhaust and ran off with it. Must have had asbestos gloves! (or more likely a mate of the driver)

At the last RYWB run at York a new 911 Turbo got hammered by Land Rover.
It was not standard - it looked a cross between a hummer and Max's car.

On my very first attempt at drag racing my (previous) 944 Turbo got put up against an Audi Quattro.
I noticed it was in Audi racing colours, had a Sport Quattro front end and a huge box on top of the dash.
We hammered it off the line, he opened up a huge gap but were so busy watching each other.
We missed finish line, the turn off exit, ran out of track and had to drive the wrong way back up the strip to the exit.
He got an 11.4 second standing quarter and again his car was not standard.

The events are great fun and great low cost fun.

Live and breathe the Marque,
Stephen

Good move Sean.
Did you notice the Euro 928 2010 I mentioned in the 928 section?

Hi Sean,

My car and another Tipec GTS attended in Euro 928 2000 (also in Holland). We arrived in pouring rain, cars covered in mud. We cleaned our cars in rain working single handed with a Porsche Umberellas in the other. Won the pub games section. I came 2nd to the Chair of the German 928 Club in the GTS concourse. Lost out to a French car for most distance travelled as we had got the ferry not the Chunnel.

After the event which lasted 4 days or so we toured Europe. The factory. Visited the members of our Swiss region and tried to make it into Italy but were foiled by snow on the passes.

Intend attending the Euro event this year too. It is a good place to show the flag for the club.

Stephen

How about this, not much cop if your a serious weight saving , I really want to win type but for fun lovers ?

Santa Pod has just turned the track day market on its head, by being the first venue in the UK to allow guests to drive under fully timed race conditions – with a passenger!

In a dynamic change to their rules and regulations, the ‘Pod has made it possible for any enthusiast enjoying a day’s full-tilt driving (at £35 all in) to take a passenger alongside, under race conditions, for only a £10 sign-on fee!

Passengers will need to bring their full UK driving licence and sign on in the usual manner, but having done so - and once presented with their wristband, they are free to ride shotgun with anybody on the start line that would like them onboard. With events running every month and at every major Santa Pod show there are over 50 separate opportunities in 2010 for a bit of twos-up, heads-up racing! Any road legal car is eligible, but understandably, real race car drivers and bikers will have to travel solo!

Upon announcing the move, Santa Pod MD, David Lloyd Jones was quick to point out the many benefits. "We’re proud to have added this new dimension to our RWYB days,’ he said. ‘By allowing passengers, it not only makes it a far more enjoyable day for groups of friends attending, but also opens the door for any tuners or commercial organisations to come along and showcase their wares to prospective customers. This fundamental change in our running regulations also means we can offer ‘experience’ rides to allow newcomers to the sport to discover the thrill of the quarter mile, for the price of a round of drinks."

Although each run is limited to one passenger per car, there is no limit to the amount of guests accompanying each car, so if you’re looking to sell, to impress, to entertain – or even for a first date with a difference, why not try the new RWYB for two?

Does the passenger have to be an adult?
