Is this shot using the Internet bargain camera? The footage is very good :)

Sean - I'd be happy to scribble something for All Torque. As you say, quotes from those that were there would mean that it would almost write itself.

< £20 Really ? Also impressed - looks as good as my Road Hawk (DC-1 not HD) I have in the daily drive Volvo (just in case Insurance scammers try it on) :x :x

Any chance of a link to the "Internet bargain camera"

Do we have any volunteers for writing up a two page article for the next issue of All Torque? About 700 words and several pictures should do it. I thought it might be good to include a few quotes from Novices who attended the day and what they made of it.

Yes, I'd be happy to submit an article as requested :D

I have not been on a track for years, and combine that with me being a bit overly precious about the white 944 turbo I took there that is like a member of the family.. I really was not entirely looking forward to the trackday.

I thought either my car was in danger of getting damaged (through someone else or my lack of skill) or was going to end up embaressed (either through my lack of skill or through being slow)

So I can understand people not going because they thought their car would be at risk, or they would be expected to be fast..

I think everyone there showed more respect than I could have asked for, everyone waited for my indicator to go on before they passed me (even if I was getting carried away and not checking my mirrors for faster cars for a whole lap!) and at no point were any cars close enough to me so that they or I could end up in contact not matter what happened.

My lack of speed or skill... My car only has 245 width rear tyres... tiny compared with many of the cars out there.. so I was never going to be fast through the corners.. I have no ABS brakes other than my feet, so my braking is much sooner than the more modern machinery, I have no traction control, so I am a little more carefull exiting corners.. and add to that I was not going to risk "offing" my car into the infinite safe run off in any direction because it would A: Be embarrassing and B: I needed to be able to drive my car 300 miles home afterwards... Add to that the fact I am not a trackday guy.. I was slow and lacking in track skill, in a 28 year old car... But never once did I feel under pressure or like I was ruining anyone's time on the track.

Maybe it helped because it was a club day, not just an open track day where it could be anyone turning up who might disappear afterwards with no repercussions of being daft or a hooligan... But everyone was great and I never felt uncomfortable out there.

If there is some way to get this across to the membership, I could see far more people being happy to come along.

I would also say that as a track day goes, the price was very very good, so I think people would be happy to pay a little more, but for similar limited numbers as we had yesterday, or maybe just a few more and the same open pit lane format... Not having set sessions, kind of takes the pressure off... Also with limited numbers, access to the instructors was good.. Many more and everyone might not have had a chance to use them..

Maybe there would be interest in a "Novice only" no slicks, no roll cages, no modifications day... Not that these cars cause any problems, just that excluding them for a day might take away some of the intimidation that would be in the imagination of some track day novices, maybe even the promise of the instructors extending the "sighting laps" for a longer duration, so everyone knows that if nothing else, there will be 3 times when they could go out during the day with a pace car (the instructors) for half an hour keeping everything super safe.

All in all, I would recommend this to anyone

Paul, Did you get any footage of a 944 turbo on the track at all? I was not out as often as I would have liked, but it would have been awesome to see I was going slower than I thought! lol

I think you are both underselling yourselves - you were both going at a fair old pace!! In all, I thought the driving standards were very good...

Understand what you're getting at, but don't the nerves come from differential speeds - so a stock 997 GT3 will be just as 'menacing' as an S2 track car...

Be really interested if you did get any shots of mine, Paul, just rebuilt rear suspension and curious to see how it sits at speed...

Anyway, all in all, a memorable day!!

One thing I did think was "off", the guy who turned up from PCGB and proceeded to erect a PCGB flag next to his car right in front of Sean and I.. I don't even think he participated, and considering PCGB would not tollerate the same happening at one of their events, I think that was extremely rude.

I thought it was funny, no he wasn't participating. He kept hijacking the thread we had over on the PCGB forum, telling us about his region running a novice day in May.

Very true and I see your point, however another view of differing speeds is that it does allow you to easily see what the cars can actually do :)
Like in Paul's video, the car passing shows how wide the track was and how quick some cars can be.
I personally enjoy seeing the varying speeds and watching the various cars and lines..
It worries me of the thought of it otherwise looking like the M25 on a 50mph speed limit otherwise :?

However as a novice event I can see a point..
Much better to have courteous drivers and everyone enjoy the day,

I dont' think anyone in Lincs Tipec will be responding :( However I do know a certain RO or ARO that may be up for it, they have just rec'd a new HUGE Tipec Banner and aren't called SYNNERS for nothing you know :bounce: I'll bring it up in AOB at the next meeting.
(Hopefully they {Dave/Dean} might just read this first! Problem might be getting an invitation to the event  ) BTW was the Tipec one open to anyone?
Clive

My understanding is that our track day was open to TIPEC members and TIPEC forum users (not necessarily the same thing).

I think it was open to anyone, but so is Tesco's, I think someone turning up at Tesco's with a Sainsbury's flag would be escorted off the premises quite quickly.
