Can I have advice on replacing locking wheel nuts.

Alloy wheels are no longer scarce so I, perhaps incorrectly, feel that the hassle of using locking nuts is unnecessary and inconvenient.
I thought about replacing with standard nuts. Is there any advantage in closed end or open end nuts and what sort would people recommend ?

I dispensed with my locking wheel nuts too — was taking wheels off too often, and I can't remember when I've seen alloys 'nicked' since about 1987. I simply replaced with 4 more of the existing black, magnesium nuts (or rather I bought 20 new nuts as I'm a bit OCD about my 928 and the old ones were scruffy).

If you were competing as in racing then the nuts (oo-er) must be open & 1 1/2 threads showing beyond the nut.
However for road use the standard nuts are fine. If te same as the 944 then they're aluminium & prone to either stripping or shearing.
Personally I'd get some new ones & USE a torque wrench. From memory 130NM but check.
