Post subject:  My S2 radio doesn't work...

Hi Folks - I had the 'screen replaced last year (aerial within) but the radio did make a tiny effort to work. Nothing else since - just static. There is a 'box' that the aerial feeds into, underneath the R/H side - any ideas why not working?

That box is an RF pre-amp for the screen antenna.

It's possible the connections to it were disturbed when the screen was replaced. Check it has a feed from the screen antenna, and to the antenna socket of the radio. Check that when the radio is turned on, that box is receiving a +12V supply.

Getting to the pre-amp box is a bit of a mission, i had to remove mine after a too hard pull on the aerial plug came adrift and pulled the core conductor out of the feeder cable. I opened it up and fed in a new core wire, but doing up the securing bolt took for ever. In the end I popped out the door vent pipe fitting and folded back the duct. The pipe got a bit crumpled but it sprang back when I finished. Maybe the answer is to fit a DAB aerial.
Might be worth checking the wire from the screen is plugged in and the very delicate foil lead out is not sheared off on the glass edge. There is a second bit of wire from the bulkhead to the preamp box which has the same style connectors. In my case it looked like the dog had chewed it, so I presume a PO has been vandalising that too.

Thanks for the advice - I will have a look around this weekend - with your suggestion prompts in mind.
