Know nothing about it, but unless it's a 'private' plate it's not an S2.

S2 was G to K reg.

Seems right to me, I think. I'm not an expert in 928 by any means but quick Google brings up S2 as 84 to 86 (is that right?). Which could be B to E making C reg just right.

Good luck with it Mike, a manual 928 has got to be a good thing in my book. Hope you find out some more about it.

Hi Guys,

Its definitely and S2 and this is the original plate as you say Feb 1986 is definitely a C plate . Yes the last MOT was 2011. It was owned by a guy who seemed to be going through a difficult divorce , hence the paperwork except for the V5 was lost. The guy after this had it resprayed and a new clutch but then had other projects to finish.. so I stepped in.

The V5s gave me a full ownership list but the paperwork I think was thrown out during divorce proceedings

It would be great to piece everything together.... Porsche still offer the correct year maintenance / service book , albeit on a batch run basis for less than £20.

Just worth saying that I have been able to order several items that you wouldn't imagine were still available .... direct from Porsche, at fraction of the prices for old tat on ebay......

Any help will be much appreciated Guys....

Hi Mike

What are you most anxious about unearthing in the history file?

For a car that has been off the road for this long, or for any car with no recent history, I would be giving it a 'baseline' service at least to establish a schedule for future work.As a minimum that would be items in a major service (oil, coolant, brake bleed, plugs), and add to that timing belt change with new water pump and new ignition leads and distributor caps/rotors.

Very likely that the engine mounts have not been touched, and will have collapsed since 2011 anyway, so nice to change these too along with replacing tired shocks all round. At this age S2 calipers are likely to need attention to sideplates, but you can quickly check those for corrosion/pad binding without committing to refurbing if unnecessary. Check pads and discs while you're at it. I wonder when the diff oil was last changed? If sump gasket is original it will be weeping at the least, so a replacement during engine mount change would be timely.

With most of those jobs done, you would have a good baseline to establish future service schedule, and during the work you will have got a better idea of what other projects need prioritising in addition to routine servicing.

Would be great to bring this car up to snuff - manuals are rare and increasingly sought after/valuable! If you don't want to do all the checks yourself, then putting the car in for MOT would give you another decent practical list of work to prioritise.

Have you registered on the 928org.uk list to ask about anyone who may know the car? Or been in touch with David Hemmings to see if it's been on the PCGB 928 Register? Be sure to bring it along to the 928 40th birthday celebrations at Brooklands on 28th May!

Adrian

Thanks Adrian,

I am in the process of sorting out minor things that can become major....... Eg the hatch spoiler had been fixed with mastic instead of the correct fixings... This allowed water to leak in. Luckily the car had been stored dry until I found this so the original interior is in great condition. I am going to replace all the fluids and fit a new cambelt / ( plus waterpump if needed).

It would have been nice to build up the service histroy but that idea is a diminishing dream.... The original dealership and one or two of the garages that performed years of work on the car have disappeared.

Ive started to built up a user perspecive history in Microsoft OneNote by speaking to a few of the previous owners form the V5s provided by DVLC

Do you have a recommendation regarding motor mounts? Ive seen discussions around using Volvo ones etc
which oil did you settle on in the great zinc debate?

Best Regards,

Mike

On oil I go with the 928 concensus so Valvoline VR1 20W50.

On mounts I fitted original Porsche recently, but loads of owners are very happy with the Volvo items, and you would save hundred of pounds installing them.
