The bulb that illuminates the battery/oil pressure has failed, I was wondering if there is enough access to replace it without having to remove the entire pod, ie only so much of it. I don't particularly fancy pulling it all to bit's just for one bulb, with the added risk of disturbing something that was previously working.
Six years ago I had it all apart to replace the odometer gear wheel, and whilst I did that, I did some r/r on all the contacts and other bulb's etc, plus a new rheostat wheel.., with all that in my mind I really don't fancy an all out job especially with getting older and not so "flexible".

Sorry Ken, pod will have to come out for you to access that bulb.

At least it's an easy twist and pull out removal when you have the pod in your hands. Not as fiddly as the odometer gear!

Cheer's Adrian.., I can actually see the one I want to remove by just looking up and under the pod , as I mentioned in a post on R/L, I could do it with an extra 3 inches on my finger's
There are some very good how-to's on R/L however they seem to be for the later S4 cars, and I don't think early cars need as much dismantling, a partial removal is what I would envisage/hope for ?

It is partial removal, insofar as when I say "pod" I'm referring to instrument pod which can be removed with just loosening the outer binnacle it's held in by the long Allen bolts. Not a big job but fiddly, and you won't disturb anything as long as you're careful with the rear connectors.

Do you reckon I could access fairly easily the bulb holder I want out., the way you describe ?, it's the one you can see just up above the ignition barrel ?

Yes I've changed all those illumination bulbs. That was on S4 but they are same push and twist 3W bulbs in holders as your early car. But I would want the instrument cluster in my hands for proper access.
