Hi All,
Thanks again for the general help with the cutting out issue I mentioned in my previous post. All saved to the desktop.
I am driving down to see the car on Monday but in the meantime I have done some investigation work and tracked down the previous owner. We spoke for an hour today (very nice chap) and he told me all he knew about the car. Other than usual niggles, there were two main issues he said need doing, none of which the current owner had mentioned. And to be fair he may have either not noticed them or mended it, but I doubt it.
1. There is a whine when you start the car. He said it was a bad bearing in the drive shaft and it would never go away. Does this sound feasible and what do you think this is likely to cost. He had it quoted about 5 years ago at £1,200. Is it something I can do myself in a workshop?
2. When parking the car, the steering is very, very heavy, but fine when driving. He never found the problem but reckoned some of the seals in the power steering may have perished. Again, any ideas, DIY or expensive specialist fix. He said his guy could not fix it without dismantling the car.
With regards to the cutting out issue, he was surprised to hear it had returned as he had it fixed. The problem was the distributor.
I appreciate these are big expensive problems, but I must say, knowing what they are certainly eases the mind. At least I know what I'm in for.
Regards
Joel
