I have a jag xk8 for sale. Someone has offered me a 928 s4 as a swap.

Had a few 944 and 924 and always fancied a 928 but never really looked into them properly.

Just wanted a heads up on issues and main things to look for.

I know the 944 and 924 inside out and all the flaws, but no clue on 928 so dont want to get stung with a peach.

Regards

Hi :)

Basically the answer to your question is electrics....lol

928 mechanical bits are almost indestructable...engine/box/tranny etc...

Just make sure the cambelt has been CHANGED (not checked) in the last 4 years..... its done on time NOT ,mileage, thats whether its done 30,000 miles OR 3 miles.....in 4 years...

Electrics...lol.....make sure ALL the electrics work and there is a LOT of them... :)

Even if they do work, I hope you are good with a Voltmeter/Snap-On Probe....

Having said that about the electrics they never seem to stop the 928 running...its things like electric windows/boot release/sunroof etc....

Most are Autos (around 80%) the auto is brilliant though.... the manuals are worth more though....

ALL 928s are INCREASING in value drastically at the moment.....a couple of years ago you could buy a reasonable S2 or S4 for 2K to 4K

Nowdays you would be LUCKY to get the same cars for less than 6K to 10K and rising.....

Finally my famous saying >>> When I go out in the morning (daily driver) and that HUGE V8 rumbles into life , it puts a smile on my face all day :) :)

Any other questions, just ask....

Hope this helps....

All the best Brett :)

Agree with Brett.

But just add that the major mechanical item to look out for with auto S4 is evidence of annual release/check of flexplate, and most recent reading of crank end play. If the flexplate had not been regularly checked and crank allowed to wear thrust bearing beyond specified limit then you can chuck the engine away.

Good if engine mounts recently changed and not collapsed. Not only is it a big job to change them, but makes world of difference to smoothness/ride.

Hi Adrian :)

Oops, I always forget Flexplate...as mine has a drop of weld...lol, so I never bother about it :)

All the best Brett :)

but - imagine my surprise when I stuck £52.50 into the empty tank at Richmond - and the fuel light only came on in St. Austell.
A mix of heavy foot and light foot, the thundering V8 surprised and pleased in equal measure :)
