I'm going to be dismantling much of the front axle on the S4 to change the brake disks, pads, dust shields, tie rods and a few other bits. I'm considering pulling the front suspension while I'm at it to tidy it all up and get the springs powder coated. I'll need a spring compressor. Any ideas if this would be up to the job (safely)?

I think they're all much of a muchness TBH ... I did my 944 legs with a cheap set from Halfords which did the job easily. I was surprised how little I needed to compress the springs to get them apart...

Ok but I did read about someone destroying a cheap 2pc set on 928 springs and ended up using 2 2pc sets. So a 3pc set seems a better idea than the 2pc ones perhaps.

I've now seen new springs for £34.75 each on ebay which is tempting but I know if I touch the suspension I'll probably end up replacing more stuff. I've just spent about £800 in parts. Glad I'm not keeping a running tally

I have a set from Eurocarparts as posted above, they work fine but i found that due to the nature of the spring sometimes all the clamps would slide (very quickly) around the spring and all sit on one side. These clamps are under great tension and its a bit scary when it happens. The spring ends up looking like a banana. To cue it I got some small jubilee clips and clamped them around the springs to stop the clamps from moving..

My compressors are a pair but they are very substantial, and have a locking device that prevents them slipping round on the coils. I will post pic when I get home.

Never heard of that spring supplier, but if the parts are ok those are stupidly cheap for 928 springs! I believe they are £200-300 a pair from Porsche.

If you do change shocks and springs, buy new height adjuster collars and nuts. Can be hard to remove off old shocks without damaging them.
